Yes original, Ozzieman. But nothing hi-tech. It's some kind of glossy lacquer which has been durable and still cleans up well.
Rifles use a short throw gas piston, milled alum recievers, 2.5 lb trigger, and the scopes feature lit rangefinding reticles, BDC/target type turrets, and seem integral to the rifle. Fixed 4x I think is standard. Infared detection which would be useful if you were searching out a TV remote control equipped insurgent. Obviously the rifles were desgned to be scoped as the rail mount is machined into the reciever, and the ergos are built around the scope. Accuracy when removing and replacing the scope is as it should be. The scopes are offset about 5/8" to the left and a click of windage to compensate for the offset results in the 8 shot group in the second picture.
