I call this one a frankengun because after a while of building these things I've accumulated so many spare parts I literally don't know what I have, so I go on "safari" every now and then and see if I can cobble something together--mostly for the fun of it.

I took my DPMS apart ages ago thinking the barrel was shot out--but that was before I got a borescope. I can't believe how nice the bore looks using the borescope--in some ways better than some new barrels I've bought costing much more. I have new-found respect for DPMS--or at least for what they used to be.

If I do a purpose-build AR for a cartridge--that's different, I'll buy generally very good new components with an eye towards optimal compatibility/performance.
