Ok I have been searching around the net for a while now trying to find the perfect AR for me. Well that search may have come to an end. Here is the one I am going to get.

http://www.firearmsforyou.com/guns/swl-mp15sport-811036-5.56-16-as-blk-30/

I have never heard bad things about smith and wesson so I know this will be a good buy for me. That site is out of stock on everything but maybe my LGS can find me one. I am so excited about this find! Thanks to all of you on my other threads that pointed me in the right direction!

are you getting the fixed 10rd because SC has strict gun laws? i havent kept up on what states have mag capacity limits, but if they dont then why not get the 30rd one and just buy the mags you want for it.

We have no such strict laws. I just posted a link to the wrong rifle hehe. Im gonna go 30 rd mags all the way! And firearmsforyou's site is down ATM so I can't post the right link :( I will edit my post and get the right one up when their site comes back up.

I dont think it comes with a chrome-lined barrel. If the 16" barrel is a must, I would definitely go with a mid-length gas system instead of a carbine-length system.

I can't even build one for $600. even if it doesn't have a chrome lined barrel that's not bad. I don't the the spikes tactical has a CLB either.

I don't remember but I am quite sure my duty rifle back in the day didn't have a chrome lined anything and I shot just fine with it. I know Im not getting the best with my $600 but I am not trying to. I just want to get in on a low end AR that I can have a little fun with and keep propped in the corner of my living room in case I run into a HD situation. (Of course it will be put away when I am not home)

I like inexpensive rifles, but I wouldn't consider an AR without a forward assist, which the S&W Sporter does not have.

I remember being trained to use the forward assist but I don't believe anyone actually used them. I mean even with S.P.O.R.T.S. you could just leave out the tap and still probably get a properly chambered round. Right? But please by all means correct me if im wrong!

What are you going to use this for primarily?

I wouldn't consider the "Sport" for even light duty. Its more of a plinker. If you're willing to drop that much on an AR, why don't you save up a bit more and get a better rifle that wont crap out when you need it most.

I am on a quest to have a gun in every room of my house and it will mainly be a corner filler. However, my cousin has some land up in the mountains and I would definately want to take it plinking once in a while. (Once or twice a month)

I could maybe use a little more savings on it, but then my plan for saving for a rock island 1911 would be squashed for a while. I would much rather spend that extra hundred or so on ammo and accessories.

Or should I just give up and get a 400 dollar AK and the RIA 1911? Maximum my wife wouldn't kill me for spending may be around $750ish.

the thing I notice about that interarms is it's listed as a .223rem. it's probably really in 5.56nato but there is a tiny difference and 5.56mm in a .223 chamber is a no-no. double check the stamp on the barrel before you run 5.56 through that.

getting an AK instead might be a good choice until you can afford more for an AR. even cheap AKs work and they don't mind steel cased cheap ammo.

I would say buy it for a good beginner, and build another upper latter if you find it necessary. A good friend of mine just bought a m&p15 sporter and is quite accurate. Good shooting and reliable rifle. A chrome lined barrel would only be $200-$250 at a later time if you really don't feel like proper maintenance. And if you really want a forward assist for looks (because they are 99.9% of the time never used), a good upper stripped receiver can be had new for $80.00 to put the new barrle on later as well. Then you are well on your way to your second AR and build as you go.
