For those that carry chambered...

I try to shoot my carry guns once a month so whatever is in the chamber gets shot not cycled.

Tailgator, a good point. That is also why it is not a bad idea to incorporate a tactile (tactic-tile? ;)) check of the chamber if it is feasible. In addition to being something useful for low-light, the process of verifying clear by seeing and touching helps keep you from “seeing” what you expected to see instead of what’s actually there.

I can think of at least a couple of times I would have sworn the chamber was empty but my pinky was sending back a “Hey, that’s a 9mm case” message.

I leave my pistol chambered, always. I only remove the cartridge when I go to the range to shoot some practice rounds.

If I don't have the pistol on me, then I put it in my safe loaded with it chambered. Unless I am going to sleep, then it goes on the night stand next to my bed.

I still think we are looking for a solution that creates its own problem. Be it carrying with an unloaded chamber or unloading and rechambering a firearm. You are creating a situation where you believe a firearm is unloaded and I am not certain what you are hoping to gain by doing so.
