For the "small handed" among us....

Sir,

The Baby Eagle is much like a CZ-75 but with a smaller grip and extended controls.

The Kahr pistols have tiny grips, but shoot like bigger guns.

The P7, P5 and 225 are all excellent, as well.

BigHonu -

The Sig 225 was supposedly being discontinued (from being imported or production nobody really knows) but then another rumor surfaced that they were only leaking out contract overruns from governement jobs etc... Now Sig USA states that it is not being discontinued.

Fact is - they never did quit being imported or produced, it's just that they were arriving in very small quantities. Production of the 225 is in Germany, whereas runs of some of the other models 229's etc. are parted over and then assembled in the US.

They recently submitted a 225 for approval in CA (not something you'd pay for if you were discontinuing a model) and people have been getting NIB models with a 2001 production date stamp.

Browning High Power
The best for small hands
plenty of mags
The only thing smaller I can think of is a 9mm colt 1911.

Thanks again for all the comments.

I have searched and read alot about SIG and HK reliability, accuracy, and durability. I have'nt taken the same time with the BHP or the CZ-75. For those who own these, how do they rate right out of the box?

Aloha,

Mine has always been an excellent shooter (makes me look better than I am) and I really can't recall having a failure to feed (jam). I've used at least five types of mags and probably a dozen or so types of ammo and never had a problem of any kind. The only modifications I've made to my BHP was to remove the magazine safety and replace the grips. I really can't think of anything else that I don't like about it. Good luck!

BHP Negatives

I really like the BHP and used to carry mine but the trigger is a bit funky. It can sometimes be difficult to get a very crisp pull due to its design. Also the trigger reset (how far you must release the trigger for it to be ready to fire again) is the longest of any gun I have shot. This sometimes makes rapid shooting difficult. These characteristics do not bother many but I thought should be mentioned. It does feel fantastic in the hand though.

My hands are also 7" or so and I am primarily a 9mm shooter. The following is my list of what I've found works:

Steyr M9 - looked at a Glock 19 but never felt comfortable with the grip. It is a pleasure to shoot, great trigger and ergonomics. I am as accurate with this as I was with the Walther, if you are interested in polymer, this is a great gun or consider...

Walther P99 - fit well, really good accuracy, but during my range session testing it out it would not feed speer gold dot hollow points and jammed on one so badly I had to have the range master help clear it. I am not the most experienced shooter but I've never had this bad a problem. It did feed winchester white box and umc fine, but...

Browning HP - if you want a metal pistol with hi caps, it's hard to beat the HP.

S&W 3913 - if you don't care about high caps the single stack 3913 is really very easy to hold with smaller hands.

Good luck!

Might as well start at the top...the SIG P225.
The SP2009 is a very good pistol, but not in the same league as the pistols in the Classic line, IMO.

Since you are considering CZs, try to find a CZ75 Compact PCR [alloy frame]; it is both lighter and smaller than the standard steel-frame CZ75B and those with smaller hands seem to like it a lot.

The trigger reach of the P99 is too long for me, even with the smallest backstrap. The most ergonomic non-1911 I found is the Steyr M series. Short trigger and the gun points naturally.

I also vote for the Walther P-99 with the small backstrap. I have a friend with very small hands and finds this gun to be the one which best suits him.

Removal of the magazine safety enhances the BHP's trigger pull.

Not sure if that post was directed at me but I was actually referring to the fact that the trigger mechanism goes from the frame up into the slide and then comes back down into the frame. From my limited experience a unique arrangement that can introduce problems. If the slide to frame fit is loose this can be percieved as creep. For a really great BHP trigger it seems the gun must be kept pretty tight. Again I suppose I am making a mountain ... blah blah blah

I suggest you try a SIG Sauer P225, a Glock 19 and a Walther P99.

You stated that you tried the G17, but the 17 and 19 are a little different. Try one of everything; you may surprise yourself. :)
