For the LAST TIME... Is 9mm enough?

I figure that a guy that big really likes to eat, so I've got a large cake, some cookies and milk on the table to distract him. Now if he drinks that milk he can't be that tough.

You mean, he made it OVER the concertina wire, past my dobermans, across the moat and past the claymores? If he's THAT damn lucky, a .50 BMG might not stop him! ;)

Seriously, my nine is just fine.

To answer Onslaught's question for 260lb bruiser determined to bust you up. If limited to a pistol - pick a 10mm, if a revolver - pick a 44magnum, but I would prefer a 12gauge with 3" 00buck but almost any bird load would do (and would look better in the courtroom when the prosecutor shows off your hunting shotgun).

But I didn't answer it on my last post. But since a similar scenario actually happened in a local bar some years back and the intended victim killed the perp with a full clip of .25acp YES, 9mm would be adequate and 30 fast rounds from a Tec9 would be better (then the prosecuter would own the weapon and I'd be toast in court).

Two to the chest...one to the head...makes your aggressor...very very dead...

Lets look back on a recent event. Philadelphia police go at it with a crazed 300 lb. man high on cocaine. Suspect is shot in the abdomen 4 x's with issue hollowpoints (Gold Dots?) Said suspect then proceeds to steal a squad car lead them on a chaseget caught then manage to fight with the police some more. After all of the events, (I know there are controversial happenings during this one but we wont discuss that) but anyway, suspect is able to walk into the ER. Question I ask myself is, because of this mans weight and abdominal build, did the 4 rounds penetrate deep enough to hit any vitals? But also from being a former MP I know the drugs played a major role in the rounds ineffectiveness. Hits to the boiler room would have made a difference as well as a hit to the CNS. The 9mm can do if you do your part just as with any caliber.

The "two to the chest, one to the head" poster has the answer. That or go for a central pelvis shot.

This is a lot like a bear charge scenario. If the first torso shot or two doesn't work, you have to change your plan to get some time till he realizes he has died. Maybe the bad guy's head is moving too much for you to feel confident of short circuiting him. In that case, start centering his pelvis. See what he can do with that axe while face down on the floor.

OUCH!!!!! Somebody had to bring up the dreaded CPS (Central Pelvis Shot). I think I would rather take the two to the chest and one to the head. I can't imagine being shot, but being shot in such a TENDER area, eegads that would hurt.

A CNS hit with my G26 is very do-able. Yes, it is enough.

"Glock 26: 17 rounds of concealed carry DEATH comming your way from out of nowhere!!! THAT'S FIREPOWER, BABY!!!"

Our house gun IS a 9mm (Ruger P95) because my wife's arthritis won't let her shoot a more powerful handgun enough to practice. A high-cap full of 124 grain +P Speer Gold Dots contains enough energy to take care of your 300 pounder. Don't matter how big he is, you put enough 9mm holes in him and he's gone. Since it's just one guy I would Mozambique him. If he didn't go down and stay down I still have 13 in the gun, another 15 in the spare mag, and I've given Thelma time to go for the Mini-14 and its 20 rounds of 55 grain Silvertips.

Dave's Rule #5: If you have to shoot at all, shoot until none of the bad guys are moving. Corollary: keep plenty of hi-caps handy.

That addresses your scenario. In general, I think the 9mm has gotten a bad rap because of the performance of a few subsonic loads that didn't expand, and that one shot in the infamous Miami Shootout that supposed should have killed the bad guy but didn't. IMHO modern 9mm ammunition is capable of doing the job. It may not hit as hard as a .357 or .40 or .10mm, but it's enough.

Hmmmm.... maybe my AR-15 just became my house gun, chambered in 9mm with three loaded 30 round mags. With 90 rounds, I should be O.K. :D

Excluding the rifle though, yes, my Para-Ordnance P14-45 with 14 round mags would be enough in 9 mm.

The first step is registration, the second step is confiscation, the final step is subjugation.

My house gun has been my Beretta 92 for a long time. I use Hydrashoks in it.

Is it enough? No handgun is ever enough.

Faced with that scenario, I want a cruise missle.

Beware the man with the S&W .357 Mag.
Chances are he knows how to use it.

You guys are HILARIOUS! :D

Thanks for all the input... I'm so glad I could magically change so many Glock 9's into a 9mm for you! Of course, a couple of you WITHOUT 9mm's cheated when your 1911 turned into a 13 shot browning hi-power... I said SAME CAPACITY.

But thanks again for all your input.

This may not be the final word laying the topic to rest, but it may be the most ridiculous. How about 9 and 16? Look at this one!

When he chops the door and puts the axe head through it, lop the head of the axe off the handle. Spine thickness is around 9/16 give or take a 16th. ( edit: sorry, spine on that one is 11/16ths. My boo boo )

Only difference from the picture is mine is handled in buffalo horn. I named it "Rice Krispies" cause swinging it makes my neck, shoulders, and back go snap, crackle, pop. I figure it isn't a visit to a chiropractor, but swinging it for 5 minutes cuts the pain of my headaches from muscle tension and misalignment in half.

Besides, 5 minutes each day swinging it on the front lawn and the perp will break into another house.

I would choose the a shotgun with double 00 Buck if i was given an option. A 9 mm is enough, but a shotgun would be better.
