Lots of elk have been killed w/ 30-30 and 243s but probably not out to 300 yuards.
All those that have said it is the hole that kills are correct.
Shoot one in in the rear ham and you will;probably never catch up to it. Move the hole to the lungs and it is dead-just dont know it yet.
