For all you who hate Colts...

FWIW that works out to ~2.8" at 25 yards, which won't win you any prizes but is certainly a useful level of accuracy for a handgun. Of course, we don't know how much of that is the limitation of the shooter or the gun.

The new-production Government Models are noticeably nicer than the old 1991, and not just because they have a horsey on them. That might or might not translate into a better functioning gun, but it does at least suggest a better than Neandertal level of QC. I'd be interested how reliable they are with large amounts of JHPs.

At 30 feet it was grouping like it should have at 25 yards and it worked with ball ammo. WOW I am so impressed! (dripping with sarcasim)

You need to send yours back to the factory then. Mine groups 2 1/2 inches at 25 yards and is fully reliable with all brands of JHP's I've tried in it so far.

Sarcasm aside, there was a point in Colt's recent history when you'd be lucky to get one that could shoot a whole magazine of ball without jamming. I'm sooooo glad that Colt is finally emerging from the deep pit they dug themselves into.

So they cleaned up their QC since the 1990's?

That's good news, I bought and sold a couple M1991's that should never have left the factory.

Now if they could just get rid of that damned series-80 lockwork. I've seen monkey fights at the zoo that were better orchestrated.:(

I love Colts!

Especially my stainless 6" python.

It's just that the current Colts are a priced too high to even remotely represent a value.

A Colt SAA goes for over $1400???!!!! When as good or better "knock-offs" can be had for a third of the money!

Colt isn't as interested in selling to SHOOTERS as they are in selling to COLLECTORS!

What a pity.

The rumor mill has it that you may indeed get your wish. In a recent gun rag article the General hinted that Colt may resume production of Series 70-type 1911s again. I personally don't mind the Series 80, but given the choice I'll take the original JMD design any day!

I donlt think that people hate Colts so much as they became sickened by their poor output during the 90s.

Now that that has apparently changed, you'll probably find folks willing to again give them a try.

Like me.

Thats very true. I love pythons and would not mind having a colt anaconda again but not until the prices come back down to reality and the quality improves. I had a python eliet I was not happy.

I have three. My Government model is early '80s vintage. Another is an Officer's ACP stainless. The third is a the 1991 equivalent to the Combat Commander. All function with 100% reliability. The only problem I ever had was when I put an extended slide release from Wilson in the Officer's ACP. Slide locked on it's own pretty reliably. Changed it back out and the gun has been 100% since. The Officer's and Commander have both had extensive firing of HPs. The Government Model has only had a few hundred of them. The finish is noticeably better on my Government Model, but neither of the other two are bad.

You know, in the late '80s I remember reading a bunch about the poor Colt quality control in the '70s. Then the 1991 model came out and there was much talk about what a great basic 1911 it was (at least for customizing). Now it's the 00's and we find out that the '90s were also a bad decade for quality control. How many decades are you going to let the same company screw you? Or has Colt REALLY changed this time?

1 1/8" at 10 yards = 2 7/8" at 25 yards
1 3/4" at 10 yards = 4 3/8" at 25 yards

Of course, you could say the same of GM. Remember the diesels of the '70s or the water based paint of the '80s? Anyone have a Fiero start on fire? Can I offer a Pontiac Aztek to anyone?

How much did this newly reformed Colt Government cost?

Colt QC...

...really began with the 1991A1 with the "good looking" roll marks. The new roll marks are OK, having just added another Colt to my stable with the new roll marks. Price was right at $475. But I still like the old roll marks better.
Anyway, if you buy a Colt, you can't be all that dumb.

I do not shoot much but the last time I have my Series 70 out, at about 20 ft I put 10 shots in a space that a silver dollar would cover. cheap ammo too.

For you gentlemen dripping with sarcasm...
Puhlleeeeeeeeeez...
Get a grip on yourselves.

My 1 and 1.8 inches at 10 yards is a GOOD AS IT GETS for me with a 1911. (Or any gun for that matter)

I am the limiting factor.

I shoot 50 rounds a month if I am lucky.

My groups are usually high and left, which I think is evidence of repeatable error in my form.

I grew up in the school of (1) if the gun goes bang every time, and (2) the e-type/f-type sillouhette drops with each shot, you are doing just fine.

I also happen to be tickled pink with my cloverleaf 3 round group with my 7x57 Mauser. Which was done at 50 yards!!!

Some of us just don't get out much!!

Hee Hee Hee.

Happiness is a nice Colt.

:) :)

i don't know.i'm still leary about the quality of colts.they were putting
out a lot of crap in the 80's and 90's so it would be great if they've
returned to a quality product.i think i wait a while and see how they
turn out.gunna be tough though!!!! the goverment model sure do
look real purty!!!!!!!
