What have we here? Some hypocrisy at work?

Looks like Foley (see national news and his own website) is being hoisted on his own "for the children" pitard.

I can tell you, from experience, that if someone tells you that your messages are "creepy" and you keep sending them, you are harassing that person. And that is the case, even if they're adults. And this kid is underage, no less.

Keep voting for these hypocrites, folks. Meanwhile, I am going to invest heavily in pitard futures.

It's irony that makes the world go round, driven by hypocrisy.

If an ordinary citizen did this, or even much less than this, or were even suspected and charged and had to plea bargain, they'd end up in federal prison or possibly state prison, depending on where you are, for a lot of years.

All while springmom's son's attempted murderer (which is what I'd call him) is in jail for 9 months tops.

That's what I call justice.

I dare you to develop an emoticon that fits this situation.

Wow, that's pretty creepy. I can't help but wonder what I would do had that been my son. I think a criminal record for a little assault & battery would be in order...

Am I crazy for thinking that a person's eyes express a lot about themselves? And that his eyes seem express a great deal?

Whjat a creep. I read he left Congress so he could fullfill his lifelong ambition - to be a priest.

Foley was one of the foremost critics in the House of child pornography. Foley was chairman of the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children. He introduced a bill in 2002 to outlaw websites featuring sexually suggestive images of preteen children, saying that "these websites are nothing more than a fix for pedophiles."[7] In June 2003 he wrote letters to the governor and attorney general of Florida, asking them to review the legality of a program for teenagers of a Lake Como nudist resort in Land O'Lakes, Florida.[8]

Foley's legislation to change federal sex offender laws was supported by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, America's Most Wanted host John Walsh, and a number of victims' rights groups. President George W. Bush signed it into law as part of the Adam Walsh Child Safety and Protection Act of 2006.

Foley also succeeded in getting a law passed that allows volunteer youth-serving organizations like the Boy Scouts of America and Boys and Girls Clubs to have access to FBI fingerprint background checks to help protect children.

"the boy gave Foley a handwritten thank you note before returning to Louisiana."

A 16-year-old boy writing thank you notes? Something is fishy. My momma is 82, or will be tomorrow, and is still trying to get me to write the first thank you note.

Well, you know what they say about politics making strange bedfellows.

The plot sickens...

They say [Foley] used the screen name Maf54 on these messages provided to ABC News.

Maf54: You in your boxers, too?
Teen: Nope, just got home. I had a college interview that went late.
Maf54: Well, strip down and get relaxed.

Another message:

Maf54: What ya wearing?
Teen: tshirt and shorts
Maf54: Love to slip them off of you.
...

The language gets much more graphic, too graphic to be broadcast, and at one point the congressman appears to be describing Internet sex.

He resigned his House seat tonight. Hope they bust for solicitation of a minor. Then put him in the general population of whatever prison he ends up in.

BTW, re: thank you notes....these kids are really the cream of the crop, top grades, best of their classes. I would expect that one who was chosen for that honor would very definitely know that he was supposed to write a handwritten thank you note. Nothing suspicious at all about it. A well-mannered young man who unfortunately got in the sights of a four-star creep.

Wait wait wait wait wait!...

When your youngest son was beaten and shot-at by criminals, you didn't even hint at advocating extralegal punishment for them...

...but in this case, Foley engaged in flirtation (haven't seen allegations of actual physical consummation of this flirtation as of yet) with an evidently consenting minor, and you are hinting at support for what... beatings by fellow prison mates?

Nice.

Not exactly the moral high ground... :(

Thank you notes are part of the DC culture. Kids doing page work are climbers looking for help getting into <insert military academy of choice> or othe prestigous institutions. It is a social dance designed to show you are willing to accept societal constrains. IIRC GWH Bush (#41) is an obsessive noter.

Who is protecting us from the Watchdogs?

Foley, as chairman of the Missing and Exploited Children's Caucus, had introduced legislation in July to protect children from exploitation by adults over the Internet. He also sponsored other legislation designed to protect minors from abuse and neglect

reported Friday that Foley also engaged in a series of sexually explicit instant messages with current and former pages, all male. In one message, ABC said, Foley wrote to one page, "Do I make you a little horny?"

In another message, Foley wrote, "You in your boxers, too? ... Well, strip down and get relaxed."

The sad part of this is that folks in Congress knew of this about a year ago and chose not to do anything till the e-mails were made public. There was even a vote to allow the ethics commitee to decide if they wanted to investigate.

What is there to decide, if a fellow in his position is e-mailing and IMing underage kids with such trash he needs to go.

I guess this demonstrates that Congress is a veritable cesspool that is looking out for themselves at the expense of the people. A sigh that we need to clean house and let the light of day in.

"part of the DC culture"

Right, I remember now. That's why I had to leave D.C. after high school. I was headed back to the mountains where a heartfelt thank you and a handshake was the way to do it, but only got as far as Richmond.

John

How do you know that you're voting for a hypocrite, until after-the-fact? Foley is under investigation and will probably be prosecuted, so all this "us" against "them" babble is meaningless at this point. I'm hoping that he's prosecuted; it'll be interesting to see what happens.

What a low-life!!
He deserves whatever he gets.
Does he have family....as in wife and kids?
A 16-year-old boy writing thank you notes? Something is fishy
.
Have I missed something in the last 45 yrs?
When did writting to thank someone for something become an object for ridicule??
It is just mindboggling to me that any adult, especially those in the public eye(politicians, weathermen, etc) send e-mails or go into chat rms and solicit sex, KNOWING these things can be traces!!!!
What morons!!

It's still second best to a personally delivered "Thank you!"

At least in my neck of the woods it is. Writing a little note is the lazy man's way of avoiding the effort needed to actually get up and go show your appreciation.

John

No, writing a note is the FORMAL way to express one's appreciation, which is appropriate when the recipient is a congressman. Well, not THAT congressman, he just deserves a boot in the *** but for member of Congress in general, formal is the way you do it.

I have this theory that the guys who blather most about morality are the ones who are secretly playing hide the twinkie in public restrooms, or wearing the latest lingerie from Victorias Secret...
