FN FAL or PTR-91? Which do you prefer?

Well I don't have an H&K G3 but I do have its predecessor the cetme. Of course built by century and later fixed by me who bought it without knowing the problems. After a few part swaps my bolt gap is with in spec and the gun runs great. I can even get my cetme to run steel casings including brown bear, wolf and tula. Never had a single issue with any ammo fed thru it. Even when the bolt gap was not in spec . I would venture to guess that a true H&K G3 would run steel cased ammo just fine. If mine can it should, I would go with a G3

I have two FAL's and a CETME. I far prefer the FAL's. Nothing wrong with my CETME but those FAL's are just really nice. Especially the STG58. Steyr made them nice. The G3 design certainly runs, nobody can deny that but it is so darn dirty. I shake my head every time I take one apart. It's more like taking apart a tractor than a firearm. It's a machine. No soul. I would trust one to work in an emergency but I would prefer to actually own an FAL.

Orion. Have you fired steel cased ammo out of the HK action. I would think there would be extraction problems.

Absolutely. I've owned three PTR-91's and my brother had a CETME.

All ate Brown Bear and Wolf steel case with no issues. No extraction or ejection problems.

Some of the early and 2-3 year ago vintage PTR's were finicky. If it's true to the design it will have no problems.

The HK design is the AK of the 7.62x51 world.
