FMJ or JHP for Bear Protection? Opinions!!!???

In my 5.5" 44mag I have JHPs, and JSPs, those will work for now here in Las Vegas.:D

No matter were I went, unless were Brown's are, I might get some 240 or better +P non JHPs, or FMJs. But if that was my only choice's, maybe both 50/50 ever other, what the heck? I just wonder which should be my first and last shot.:D

Bears can easily go for a bit of time after a direct heart lung shot and many hunters have actually killed the bear that killed them. Certainly, people have been hunting and killing bears for quite a while, but they are not an animal to be taken for granted. Too many instances where folks simply underestimated these critters. Double protection with pepper spray, guns and more than one armed person is the way to go. Other than that, enjoy the woods and the wonders that God has made for us to enjoy, but do go prepared. I believe I learned that lesson in the boy scouts so many years ago.

"Black bears ain't that large and are easy to kill" Not everywhere. Wisconsin has a supply in he 400-650 pound range with the recent record certified weight 727 pounds.

There's been several in the 600+ range taken within 10 miles of where our woods are.

Mark Listle has been deer hunting since he was 12 years old. But on Friday night after a tip from a friend, he made a discovery of a life time on a farm in the town of Spirit in southeastern Price County.

"I was pretty excited cause I knew from the pictures how big it was and it person to see it, it was awesome when you see a 727 pound live weight bear that's big," said

If you want to stop a bear, spray is still your best option. A pistol may scare them off, it may even kill the bear. The question is will it die before eating you, or after?

That's it, there you go, I totally agree. If you get kilted, it's your falt. Not really, but.....

I think either would do an adequate job for protecting bears from bipedal predators. But I'm guessing the F&G or P&W guys don't carry FMJ. :)

My choice would be either a reliable .40 or .45ACP pistol loaded with the best hardball ammunition I could find, with the plan being (in the rare event of a bear attack) to quickly pound as many well-aimed bullets as possible into its head. Just about any gun for protection is preferable to the option of playing dead, whilst curled up in a fetal position, hands covering the back of your neck, and not hollering "ouch" every time the bear bites you.

Like most things in life, it depends.

With a 357, I would carry a heavy hardcast bullet.

With my 454, I would carry a heavy hardcast bullet if I were in an area with grizzlys or brown bears. For black bears, I would carry Hornady XTP mag hollow points.
