Florida trigger lock laws...

I have been trying to research this and getting nowhere.

In Florida, if you have children, is it still the law that the guns must be stored with a trigger lock?

My child has known for a long time about gun safety.
She knows that if she is ever interested, I will take her to a range and
I will show her how to safely shoot.

There is never a reason to sneak around my back.
I am all too happy to teach her how to shoot safely when and if she is ready.
She fully understands this.

All with good intentions and loving care but if anything should happen, all that wouldn't matter, would it. Take the high road and do the right thing. .. ;)

Some of our local conservation and shooting sports groups, provide cable locks, free of charge !!!


Do your best, in your own best ways and;
Be Safe !!!
 
True that...

That is what I had read.
It is only punishable if your child get possession of the weapon and
uses it in an illegal manner.

As long as it's just a misdemeanor.

My kid has been around guns for years and simply will not touch them, period.

She likes martial arts and guns hold no interest to her.
 
It is really nice to have a decent safe to store guns and ammo and certain valuables. I bought my safe about 25 years ago and I think it is one of the better things I ever purchased.

And no visiting child will ever EVER possibly see one of your guns and pick it up to see if it's real or what happens if he/she pulls the trigger ...

We have a trigger lock law where I live, too. Had it for years and, even so, every couple of years some kid gets shot or killed because a parent didn't think he/she needed to obey the law.
 
I'm not a fan of trigger locks. BUT I am a big fan of secure storage of guns -- a safe, lock-box, secure cabinet, etc. We have safes and lock-boxes here at our house.

You can teach your child everything there is to know about gun safety, and he or she can be as safe, or safer, than you are. But he or she have friends who will visit; or you will have guests; or there will be workmen in the house at some time.

It's not about the law or the penalties you might face for not complying. It's about what you can do to possibly avoid something bad happening.
 
Florida and other states have laws about securing guns so that minors can't get at them.
Including juvenile burglars, who take them.
Yeah, your house is robbed and you get charged with a crime.
Secure them shootin' irons.
 
That last post is incorrect. Juvenile burglars don't count, unless they were invited in.

IE if you have juvenile guests, who steal from you while enjoying "guest" status, then you are liable.

If they break in and steal from you, you are not.

Edit: Either way, lockboxes and safes are good ideas. I have no use for trigger locks, and the ones that came with new guns are all still in their plastic wrapping, in the gun boxes.

Transportable, key or combo lock steel boxes with cables are only in the $30 range, so I don't use trigger locks for transport. At home, a good safe is a good idea.

This is a no brainer. We protect our families in many different ways so why not either lock the gun up or trigger lock it???? SHE may not want to play around with it without you, BUT what about her friends???????
 
I'm in Florida, and also am not a fan of trigger locks...and don't use them.

My principal HD weapon is in a quick access electronic coded safe by the bed. I keep a carry weapon (of the day) in a separate combo-locked Plano case in the top of a closet when not used. All other guns are locked in a separate safe at all times.

We gotta keep our guns out of the hand of our children, which includes visiting children; we may know our kids, but as DonP stated, "what about their friends?"
 
My kids knew about the two guns that were always loaded in the house and they also knew to never tell their friends about them or go into the master bedroom. Contrary to what some here seem to think about kids,not all of them are going to allow friends near dads guns.
