Flash: GOP ticket will NOT be Bush/Cheney!

Generally speaking, what do you think of the tactic of announcing some of your key Cabinet picks prior to the election? Powell may not be in agreement with us on the 2A, but he does make the ticket more attractive to swing voters, don'tcha think?
 
As either SecState or SecDef, Colin's grabber tendencies won't make a lick of difference. Gun control simply isn't an issue in either jobs, except for very minor stuff like mebbe the CMP.

Bush is percieved as weak on foreign policy. Probably not innacurate, although he's unlikely to bomb some small nation into oblivion just to distract the media from the latest investigation into his oral sex life.

By tossing Colin in early, this lack on Bush's part (real or percieved, it don't matter) gets "fixed".

Excellent move.

While Powell's apparent affinity for the UN and his thoughts on RKBA may be disquieting, it may be well to remember that the Secretary of State does not make Domestic Policy and Powell has shown, in the past, that he is a team player.

We might also remember that Cheney was White House Chief of Staff before going to Congress and GWB seems to trust him implicitly. That combination could possibly lead to Cheney becoming the most "hands-on" VP and advisor we have seen in a long time.

I am optimistic for now.

I wonder what y'all are thinking when you say even though Powell is not pro gun it will be OK cause he will attract voters. What do you think the guy in office is going to do if he thinks that most of the voters did not care about gun rights?!!!! I work with "the god squad" and they LOVE Bush. They also do not like guns and want more gun control. I don't think Bush is going to be the saviour everyone thinks.

I love the wool everyone pull's over their eyes about Bush's conservatism because he's not AS anti-gun as GORE.
Have you not seen that Bush is one world UN lackee from his push for the china-communist trade bill and his support of the new mexican president who wants to totally eliminate the borders between america and mexico and very powerful drug lords.
Hundreds of thousands immigrants suddenly hear who have no idea about or care about
'constitutional rights' and who as minorities need to be 'protected and taken care of by federal aid, another socialisst pro-gram that Bush endorses.
