FLA non-resident CCW permit question

Update:

I called the FLA dept of agriculture licensing division today and was notified that they received my application, and are reviewing it....

;):D

I tell you will be suprised when you see the issuing person is ... CHARLES BRONSON !
no one is gonna take the FL permit seriously.. Charles Bronson ???

Oh tell ! I loved how he went to harlem, and flashed money at a diner to attract the low life scums, and shot them all when they tried to mug him....

Only if I had balls that BIG !

and really, Charles Bronson signs your florida permit ! :D:D:D

So as an update to my above post I took the Utah/Basic Pistol course last Saturday and got the certification for the Utah license, which gives you a couple more states than Florida. Mailed off everything today. Utah, Florida and CT.
Those combined with my NY, PA and NH should give me the most possible states for CCL. By my count about 37? Unfortunately, it looks like Maryland and SC are blocking the direct route to Florida. (Of course not including NYC and NJ)

^^ Cool Viperjon,

lets keep in touch, I might need your help with the UT one in the future, as a matter of fact, I'm gonna try to follow your footsteps in obtaining as many CC permits as I can

No problem. The Utah test is a 12 question open book test, that no one has ever failed. Also, you have to actually shoot a handgun and hit a piece of paper. I don't think anyone has ever failed it either. Here are the details where I took it, the course is offered now and again. But because it is given by a certified Utah instructor and more rigidly structured, the Utah license is honored by even more states than Florida.

At the Nassau County Pistol Range. (Great facility I shoot there almost every weekend)

viper,

do i actually need to go to utah to take this class??

I dont know if I'll ever make it all the way out there, but in the meantime, once my NYC premesis/target, FL non-res CCW come in, I will then apply for the CT, ME, NH, and maybe even the NJ non-res carry permit.... we'll see...

There is no firearm registration in the state of Florida. Anything that is legal for you to own in your home state is legal here.

Problem is, FL doesn't accept non-res permits. Ironic isn't it.

NOOOO.
The class is given at Nassau County pistol range by a certified instructor who is licensed by Utah to give it. The reason it's Utah is because Utah has the largest reprocity agreements with other states, even more than Florida. YOU DO NOT NEED TO OWN A HANDGUN LICENSE CURRENTLY TO TAKE IT. It is 8 hours, including an idiots open book test and some range time. They fill out the forms, fingerprint you there at the class, they are a notary so it gets notarized and he stamps it with his Utah certification stamp. All you do is take the class, bring home all the documentation they give you, and send it in with a check. Done. Utah non resident and Florida non resident will give you a lot of states.

By the way, Utah CCL is accepted by Nevada which means YES you can legally carry in Las Vegas.

is FL permit good in Las Vegas ?

also, the UtAH class in long isand, does it include shooting gun skill or is it just strictly a study course and exam ?

and how much does it cost ?

The Utah course also gives you a NRA Basic Pistol certificate which is good for a state like FL where they want some documentation.

Here is the link and all info to the company who offers the courses:
http://www.dr-security.com/

Dates, times and fees are listed.

Part of the day long course is some range time, you must pass the Utah requirments for gun proficency as detailed in the "Utah" section of the above site. There were many people at the last session that had never shot a handgun. No one failed. That should tell you the degree of difficulty.

Utah qualification; http://www.dr-security.com/qualification/qual_course_B.htm

Effective Oct 1, 2007

In accordance with Senate Bill 237 passed by the 2007 Nevada Legislature the State of Nevada will recognize the following States' CCW permit holders:

Alaska
Arkansas
Florida (added January 3, 2008)
Kansas
Louisiana
Missouri
Nebraska
Tennessee
Utah

This law allows holders of valid permits from these states to carry a concealed weapon while in the State of Nevada. The permit must be in the possession of the issuee at all times while carrying a firearm.

^^ Thanks for the info Viper.....

I'll just work on getting my non-res FLA CCW permit and my NYC pistol permit in first before I worry about the others...... it can become overhwelming lol...

BTW, I got the letter from the NYPD today, to get some letters and documentation together for the required "personal" interview portion of the application process...

Well the thing with the Utah is that you can take the course and send it off without having a pistol license in hand yet, so it's something to think about maybe in the spring-summer. When you get Florida, combined with Utah you are covered for a lot of states, definitely the two best non-resident to have.

Now that it is, I'll feel so much better walking the strip.
