FLA non-resident CCW permit question

I have a question regarding this permit. Since I am a NYC resident, and provided that I get my NYC resident/target pistol permit, I then can legally buy a pistol here in my state, get it registered etc.

So when I decide to go on vacation to FLA or to any state that honors my permit, would I have to register my NYC registered pistol with FLA?

There is no firearm registration in the state of Florida. Anything that is legal for you to own in your home state is legal here.

You don't have to register it. Florida Constitutionally prohibits registration. But to CCW it in Florida you would have to get a Non-resident CCW.
Your NYC permit isn't woth the paper it's printed on.

Thanks.... yeah I sent out my nonresident FLA CCW permit a week ago... hopefully I'll get it soon. I met a guy here, who is a resident of NJ who told me he got his FLA non-resident ccw in 6 weeks, I hope the same will be for me.

and yes, I'm also waiting for my NYC premises/target permit to come in also hopefully early/late summer 2008....obtaining this is the one thats gonna allow me to buy my first pistol...

and yes, NYC does rip you off with their horrendous fees....I paid close to $375-$400 I think.

Yah registration is a foriegn concept once you leave any of the free people's democratic republics and cross into real America.

But carrying a concealed weapon without a permit only works in Vermont. Some states allow licensed hunters to wear their sidearm (in some places it has to be a sidearm legal for hunting) under their coat in inclement weather.

I am not sure, but think in FLorida you can keep a gun in your car if it is in a snapped holster or other secure container. Me I would get the Florida CCW permit.

My paperwork is going in as soon as I quit *****ing around and decide which bozo's class I will take. (we are running real low on non-bozo's round here. starting to think having the 49th lowest SAT scores in the nation no accident)

BTW - free advice worth much more than you paid for it: Internet is great for getting ideas, verify them IRL before you start carrying guns around somewhere you thought you were legal 'cause of the 'net.

I'll be sending my out of state resident application in to both Fla and CT this upcoming weekend (getting the required "training certificate" this Saturday) so we can compare wait times. I have NY, PA and NH so this will fill out the rest. Only other possibilty is UT which gives you a few more states than FL, but they require a classroom cert also.

Yeah, I have the same plans as you....once my regular NYC, and fla ccw permits come in, I plan on getting the CT, NH, ME non res permits.... and maybe the UT one also..

BTW, Is my NRA Basic pistol class certificate accepted by UT for the application?

No.
The Utah non resident reqires a specific class on Utah laws/test or some such thing. Here is a link to the class I am taking this weekend. There is a SPECIFIC class on just the Utah requirement. http://www.dr-security.com/ccw/utah.htm I am taking the "basic" pistol: http://www.dr-security.com/nrabasic/basic_pistol.htm.

Should be 10 hours of sheer boredom, I've had my pistol license for 20 years and have owned over 50 pistols bought and sold....

By the way, what does Maine give you not covered by others (other than Maine itself)?

viperjon,

about Maine, I dont know, didnt research it completely, I'm just getting it since it would allow me to carry there if I ever happen to travel there.....

basically my goal is to obtain as many non-res ccw permits as I can as long as the paperwork is simple and easy, and also as long as the fees are reasonable

CT is a real pain in the neck. TWO sets of fingerprints, three documents have to be notarized, pictures etc. Proof of US citizenship. Two separate checks, one has to be cashiers or money order. Also of course a pistol "certification". But it's right nearby so I want it.

viperjon...

yea, its nothing different from the NYC permit process.... those things I can obtain easily, but would have to do some running around though to get all the documents and etc together...

The people that can get an NYC carry permit are people who are:

1) celebrities
2) politicians
3) Business owners transporting a lot of cash
4) "Friends" of the Mayor
5) Just plain wealthy people
6) Law Enforcement

Normal citizens like you and I have a better chance of winning the lottery than getting approved for a NYC CCW license. Unless you can prove that you are any of the 6 above points, the licensing divison doesnt see why a normal citizen like you and me would need a CCW permit....

I live in a very anti-gun city.....

I'd like to know how and why NY considers their requirement as gun control??? Look at the major cities with stringent gun policies and in most cases it doesn't work, does it? Look at their crime rates, criminals are the only ones with guns... Now, there's a system that works...NOT!

^^ true..... criminals do have guns here in NYC.... just watch the news, you'll see reports of shootings on a weekly basis.....but what gets to me is that the victim usually ends up dead or in the best case in the hospital....

But rarely does the criminal ever get caught..... so i dont know. I feel bad for the dead victims who had to lose their lives and not have a chance to protect themselves.

Yeah, terrible, Mostly I hear of the victums are counter / cashiers in bad neighborhoods, livery cab drivers, old girlfriends of crazy boyfriends, drug related shootings, and plotted murders where the criminal thinks they deserve it....
