First time casting.. inconsistencies in weight

The first few came out looking good (top pic) But the rest came out not only frosted but 30gr under weight. (2nd pic) I understand that temp plays a part in frosted bullets but to have them weighing between 285-290gr yet still be a complete bullet has me wondering about the lead alloy.. weird thing is that they came from the same pot which was previously melted down and mixed. Any ideas?
 
I guess my question is... Can the temp play a role in the final weight? Or do you think (as I do) that the mix was a bit on the diluted side and the first rounds to come out were the best cause they were the densest lead that made it's way to the bottom of the bottom pour furnace. That's my theory at least.
 
REAL, (rifleing engraved at loading) bullets are meant to be used in muzzleloaders and cast from pure lead, if you are casting with an alloy it will explain why they are lighter, but you still shouldn't be getting a 5gr variation.
 
You are probably right, I have run across sinkers that have been very hard to scratch with my thumbnail.

Try to find some roofing boots, and run the melt and the mold kinda hot, a little tin from some solder will help with fillout, doesn't take much.
