My most fun pistol is my Colt 45 ACP series 80 with a tune up. When my daughter got the bug she picked up a S&W light weight snubby in 38. She didn't like the kick but loved my 45. Since then she got a 45 in a Springfield she likes it. With the 1911s you can purchase a basic model and tune it your self. With a 100 + years on the design there are a lot of parts out there for it.
Now I have been trying a few of the polymer types out there and at this point the M&P pro 9 with the red dot sight looks like a lot of fun. I think with some trigger work you would enjoy that pistol.
