You absolutely can not go wrong with a HK USP Tactical. I got mine (in .45, of course) from Impact and it's just beautiful. Ambidexterous controls are available for free from HK. They have a special now on it - $830. A pretty damn good price, if you ask me.
It has a very long barrel (for a .45 - just over 5") with an o-ring to improve its fit to the slide. You can also get a flash supressor from CCF for $98 that's been shown to lower groups by 30-35%. It's a great target gun, most definitely.
