First revolver help

I seldom recommend a Taurus revolver. But, you have the M85 and I hope it serves your needs well. The main Taurus revolvers that I see people complaining about are the rimfires, whcih this isn't one of them.

Life is a journey and we all learn as we go. Today, I would not buy my very first revolver again, but I have had a lot of revolvers since then.

Good luck and happy shooting.

Not a Taurus fan, BUT......

....... not a fan of the BBB either. "Be a member, or we'll publish onesided accounts of issues." ...... if membership is not free (betcha it ain't), then they are legal shakedown artists ...... I know of more than one Chamber of Commerce/Trade Organization that operates like that: Give us xhundred $$$ and we'll give you a window decal, a newsletter, and won't post any negative accusations we have not investigated...... basicly, play ball, or we'll smear you. While everything they say may be true, they will not go out of their way to provide any information that might help non-members:

From their link:
BBB does not have sufficient information to determine size of business. BBB evaluation of business is based on rating formula's smallest size classification.

90 "Closed" complaints ...... OK. How many "Open" complaints? How many baseless? How big is Taurus? They won't say. They took the default setting "smallest size classification"-In other words, their "F" rating is based on something like a Mom and Pop gun store having 90 confirmed complaints. Not a valid rating, IMO.

It would be cheaper for Taurus to play ball, probably......

All the same, I'll stick with Ruger.

Today, I would not buy my very first revolver again, but I have had a lot of revolvers since then.

I would, and would buy another one if I could find it at the price I paid for it, even with inflation taken into account.

I still have it and won't sell it. I'd like more like it...... anybody selling LNIB Colt Trooper Mk III's for less than a GP 100 new? One in .22lr would be peachy! :D

I don't believe the BBB to be the be all end all, but it's funny how Taurus is the maker we hear all the complaints about and they have an F rating on there.

You can have 4 Taurus' and not have a problem, but that doesn't mean Taurus doesn't make total crap compared to Ruger and S&W.

For example, say 90% of Taurus guns never have any problems. Well, that means most of them are not going to have a problem. However, what if comparatively 99% of Ruger and S&W do not have problems? That would leave Taurus with a serious QC issue, yet most people who get a Taurus would not have any problems at all and come on here and say, I have 4 Taurus guns and haven't had a problem yet.

Then when you do have a problem we hear the stories of people sending their gun back to Taurus 3 or 4 times and never getting it fixed.

So yeah, you may only have a 10% chance of getting a lemon or whatever that number may be, but it's a heck of a lot higher when you buy a Taurus compared to a Ruger or S&W. Then if you are one of those unlucky ones you have hell to deal with. You don't hear such horror stories with Ruger or S&W.

That's interesting about the BBB and Taurus. I happen to be a member myself for what it's worth.

Thought I would add this rather than another separate comment.

LNIB Colt Trooper Mk III's for less than a GP 100 new? One in .22lr would be peachy!

Ain't that the truth! I have a couple of the Mark III's. I really like it in 357 mag. It is my favorite, even more than the GP-100. Who would have thunk?

I make my decision, and I get criticized? Thats not right. This was the first and last time I will ask for help on this forum.

 The nerve!

Rough love son, we're just a bunch of Ruger and S&W snob's. It's just that some of what was said has some validity.

I'm a CZ snob too, but I never did own or shoot a Taurus Auto to judge.:D But I did shoot a Taurus Judge to judge. Judgment, Kind off cool.

You OP title did state First revolver "help". LOL

TBS, you could do worse than a Taurus.

after much thinking, I took your advice and went for a smith and wesson model 10 police trade in from budsgunshop.com. i put it on layaway, will get some pictures when i get it

Hard to beat a Model 10. They sell fairly cheaply because most have longer barrels and shoot 38's versus 357 mag. I own one myself. The pocket rockets are the ones that are selling quickly these days.
