Smaug,
I think you would be slighting yourself if you bought a 45 ACP revolver when there are more powerful/flexible options out there.
Interestingly, although I own N-frames in plenty of serious big-bore calibers (.44-40, .44 Special, 10mm Auto, .41 Magnum, .45 Colt, and .44 Magnum,) my favorites are the .357 Magnum/.38 Special and the .45 ACP; for cost and variety of commercially-available ammunition, they are unmatched. With the .45 ACP, you can get ammo ranging from powder-puff 200gr SWC target loads, to cheap 230gr FMJ, to a staggering variety of self-defense JHP's. To up the power, if such is desired, you could get +P loads, or even .45 Super, and if that's not enough, Clark Custom will cheerfully ream the cylinder to take .460 Rowland (although then you
would have to use moon clips to shoot plain ol' .45 ACP.)
In the meantime, the 44 Specials are just a bit less powerful than 45 ACP.
Unfortunately, they are nearly twice as expensive as .45 ACP, too.
(Which sucks, because .44 Special is another caliber I enjoy shooting a lot...)
You don't have to jerk around with moon clips.
This is kind of a common misconception about the 25/625's. You don't
have to use moon clips, as the rounds headspace on the case mouth; the moon clip is just used to give the extractor something to grab. When shooting standard pressure target loads through a 25/625 without moon clips, however, four or five cases will usually fall out of clean chambers, and those thad don't can be plucked out with your fingers. Or you could order .45 Auto Rim ammunition from Gerorgia Arms. Personally, though, I think moon clips are the greatest thing since the swing-out cylinder.
