First Attempt at Hand Painted Camo

Here is my first attempt at hand painting a camo pattern with a sponge and spray paint. Turned out ok I guess. This was meant for the Forrest so it is a bit on the darker side. I plan to try a desert camo later on.

Looks great. I don't think you need to match the background so much as break up the silhouette. For Africa I painted the whole Savage Weather Warrior, scope and all, but it was an ugly beast to start with. Yours looks good

Love this … what was your process, base colors, etc. did you use a sponge?

Yes, used pieces of a natural sponge.

Started with a Browning X-Bolt FDE Max Long Range. Disassembled all parts of the stock. Acetone to remove any grease or oil.

Used Krylon Fusion paint. Matte Coffee Bean, Flat Black, Matte River Rock, and Matte Deep Grey.

Painted a few lines on the stock with the colors and allowed to dry. I will post a photo of the stock prior to the sponge treatment. Then, I used a sponge to apply paint. Light colored paint gets applied over dark colors, dark paints get applied over light colors. Once done, I allowed to dry.

To finish it all off, I ised Krylon Color Maxx Flat Crystal Clear, for a clear coat.

The whole process took about three hours from start to finish.

First Attempt at Hand Painted Camo
Well, have to admit that my "First-Attempt" did not turn out as good as yours. In fact, not even close. ..... :rolleyes:

Thanks for the recipe and;
Be Safe !!!

Your paint job looks just fine to me. I've only done one and other than color is similar to yours before the sponge part. I did the whole gun, scope and all. Rifle is a Remington 660 with an H&S stock. It's one of my favorite hunting rifles.

I love the Remington 660, my wife's grandfather has one in 350 Remington. Super cool gun for sure. That short barrel makes it very handy for a hunting rifle.

Awesome work!

Hopefully it holds up well. I've done a few ARs in FDE but no camo. At one time I may have thought it was silly, but making a gun your own style is quite satisfying.

Very very nice. The trouble is now I want to do that too. I just can’t see me being as good as you. Gonna have to try.
