First AR - Sig, DPMS, or COLT?

I can only use www.texasguntrader.com as a reference point for resale value.
Rarely are there piston rifles posted for trade or sale and they are snapped up right away at what I consider very high prices (within a $100 of a new one). I once saw one sell for the same price as a new one. I guess they saved themselves the wait, FFL and shipping costs.

If I have to explain the benefits of reliability and durability of a piston system you are unfamiliar with piston systems and it's beyond the scope of this forum. Here's a good video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3LHEYUha9c&feature=related

HK is not unique in any way.

While I agree the piston has some advantages (FA/ SBR/ suppressor), the Hk416 is nowhere near the price of DI AR.--->"Spending $1,000 on a gas impingement rifle seems silly when for another $500 you can get a piston version of the same rifle"
Nor is it a quantum leap forward-- just ask Pat Rogers

"We know than an AR built to the spec will run more reliably for a longer period of time than a hobby gun. We have run a number of guns to over 15,000 rounds without cleaning—or malfunctions—as long as they were kept well lubricated. "

Other advantages of the DI system are:

-Reduced overall weight
-Reduced forend weight(keeps the balance right)
-Simplicity of design: This makes for easier and cheaper manufacturing, as well as making it easier to maintain good quality controls. The more complex the design the harder it is to keep the good QC.
-Reduced barrel vibration: This seems to be important in the AR platform in keeping excellent accuracy.

Obviously a DI system gets more carbon buildup in the receiver and bolt assembly, however if you are keeping it well oiled you can keep a top tier rifle running reliably for well over 1000rds. Then you go clean it as the manual tells you to. It's really not a very difficult cleaning routine.

I meant to say there are many manufacturers of piston systems Sig, POF, Ruger, LWRC, etc....

I've lost track of the market but I would guess the HK is probably one of the more expensive ones.

But we digress, I only offered my suggestion if OP was open to other considerations. He may not be, so our discussion is pretty academical.

Of those three choices-easy Colt. Pass on DPMS (owned the Panther Lite at one time). Also consider Daniel Defense, LMT and Bravo Company.
