First AR - Sig, DPMS, or COLT?

So I am in the market for my first AR. I have it narrowed basically to three choices: The Sig Sauer M400, DPMS AP4, or the COLT 6920. I would just like some feedback or experiences you guys have had with any of these rifles, and get your recommendations.
Thx

If money were not an issue and you had the choice between the three go with the Colt. That said I'd bet the DPMS is a more accurate rifle than the Colt and perhaps even the Sig although its entirely possible the lower parts (specifically the bcg) may be of questionable quality.

But then if you bought the DPMS and installed a new BCG that'd make a nice gun... all of my builds are off a stripped DPMS lower and I have no complaints about them.

All that said though - if you're going to buy a fully assembled rifle and money was not an issue here - get the Colt.

I'd probably go Colt or Sig, either one of those would likely be a better gun than the DPMS. Sig's ARs don't seem to have a huge following (and I haven't read much on them), but they generally do things pretty well, so I wouldn't feel poorly equipped with one of theirs. Still, Colt is a known quantity, and a good one.

Colt seems to hold best resell value.
Isn't DPMS one of the brands that has at times varied significantly from mil spec to the point where things have not been interchangeable?
I went with CMMG. I thought they had the best value.

DPMS is a hobby gun.

SIG may or may not have Milspec features throughout and are new to ARs.

Colt owns the TDP. Look this up in google and start to learn before wasting several hundred dollars and not even know it.

There is no comparison here.

ok first off do Not get a sig, none of them are very renowned for reliability and durability. secondly, DPMS is bottom of the barrel while Colt is top tier. if money is no option then get the colt but if you are considering DPMS to be economic thn I would recommend a pre freeedom arms DPMS. two other economic models that are very highly recommended are Palmetto State Armory and Smith and Wesson M&P sport.

Not even fair to compare the three. The Colt is by far the best choice. Sig QC is sketchy at best right now and the DPMS is not much more then a hobbiest gun. You won't go wrong with the Colt.

First off, I have no experience with the SIG Sauer, Colt, or DPMS.

However, I do have experience with LMT ... I own a CQB 16. Love it, completely satisfied with the construction, operation, accuracy and reliability. Would buy the same gun again. Since you appear to be interested in a standard patrol carbine, have you checked out the LMT SPM16? $1119.99 on gunbroker

I'd be willing to bet that the Colt 6920 is an exceptional gun.. however, Colt isn't the only company that knows how to build one ;)

If there were a perfect car, we would all be driving it, right?

TD1911, exactly. And it was a very short list. Bravo Company makes a great AR. And, for the money, you can't do better than Spikes Tactical.

Isn't the HK416 now available in a semi-auto form (MR556) in the USA?

I imagine they aren't cheap, but quality rarely is.

Ah, indeed it is. Found the webpage, where they talk up the piston as being the magic bullet for reliability while also explaining why they didn't chrome the bore or chamber (also a big boon to reliability... while it's true chromed bores tend not to be as accurate, if you're after true accuracy, why add the reciprocating mass of a piston?).

Oh, and the MSRP is nearly $3300. That's insane. I don't give a rip just how great a rifle it might be. That's the price of THREE BCM-only or Colt rifles. Or a BCM rifle AND a SCAR. Or just two BCM M4geries and optics, mags, and ammo for BOTH of them. There's just no way it's worth that. Sorry, I don't drink the HK Kool-Aid... there's nothing out there to indicate it's worth that kind of scratch. Not when the base M4 platform works so well as it is.

Thanks for all the feedback. I will most likely be getting the COLT. I realize that the DPMS AP4 is considered inferior but from talking to the guy at my gun shop it was supposed to be a MIL-SPEC copy of the COLT. Any truth to that?
