Fired a Hi-Point .45 Today

It's a small private school. $4000 was an estimate, it might be higher. I can't remember what he told me. It may have been like seven grand.

My semester tuition at public university is $1600, for comparison.

Big private schools, like Adrian down state, then you get the $14,000 tuition, and the school STILL gets subsidies to try to keep costs down.

Thats because i've held them and most importantly fired them, unlike 95% of the Hi-Point bashers that post here.

I'm in the latter 5% and I can tell you: they are junk!!! :barf: At least the one I had!!

In all fairness, Denfoote, I had a Charles Daly 1911 that was an utter piece of crap and I'll never buy another one.

Others on this board swear by them. *shrug* I'm not interested in a Hi-Point, but they DO have a good warranty. (Lifetime warranty, regardless of whether the weapon is first or second hand.)

I have no experience with their customer service, however. And they ARE capable of making nice firearms; look at their 9mm carbine. It's got its flaws, but it's a great little shooter.

I can't speak for Hi-point pistols, but I did own theis 9mm carbine for a while. It was actually fun to shoot and quite reliable. It ate ammo that my Taurus PT92 choked on.

But it smelled like cat pee whenever I fired it.

I sold it, cat pee and all, to a friend, and he seems not to regret the transaction...

Do you reload your own ammo?

Nah, this was bog-standard factory 9mm FMJ. I tried Federal, Winchester, and the cheap-arsed reloads they sell for plinking at my range. None of them made a difference. The thing always smelled like cat pee.

::shrug:: I solved the problem by foisting it off on someone else, and built up an AR15 from a kit instead. :D

Geezz..you didn't know that they used cat pee for a binder in the polymer? I thought everyone knew that!:p

Although I haven't heard of many satisfied folks with the High Point pistols I know of many folks who like the carbines.

As for the guys who want to ban these weapons, let them do that and they will just have a stepping stone to get to the next class of weapons. Then some day only the rich and influential will be able to afford to have a gun because the inexpensive ones will all be banned.

Just because a gun is inexpensive doesn't mean its crap. Look at how many satisfied Kel Tec owners that are out there. Many of them spent less than $200 for theirs.

Good Shooting

Find me a better carbine that is as accurate and reliable and under 2 hundred dollors as my hipoint and lets go to the range . If its a better one than my HIPOINT ill throw it in the trash . Even better it can cost more than mine and if it functions as good as mine ill get rid of mine and buy it and never shoot a hipoint again . But I find that highly unlikly because most highpoint HATERS have never even shot one its all hearsay .

Both my Norinco SKS carbines were well under the $200 limit... I'd imagine they'd give a more expensive  Hi-Point carbine a run for its money in the accuracy department.
A comparison in range and power would certainly be futile.

Reliability? Granted, only a bit over 1,500 rounds have gone through the both of them, but I don't recall ever having a rifle induced failure.

Ready to chuck it in the round file? :D

kobokie - Pistols at or under $200 that are probably better than Hi-Points (definitely ergonomics-wise, probably more reliable as well):

CZ-70
CZ-52
Makarov
PA-63
Tokarev TT-33
Star Model B
Ballester-Molina
South African PP clone (can't remember exact name)
Uberti Millenium (ok, so it's actually $220)

Heck, I've got a pair of 1860 Army relpicas arriving today. I'll let you know how they are...you might even be better off with one of them than with a Hi-Point. :)

edit: Heh. Carbine. Whoops. :o

Hi-Point carbines are pretty darn good...but I'd prefer my $130 Swedish Mauser carbine. :)

Nightcrawler- The tuition here for out of state students (me) is pretty high, somewhere around $10,000/year. Maybe I shoulda went to school in Northern Michigan...but I'd spend too much time at Crystal Mountain! ;)

Ceol Mhor- Congrats on getting some 1860's! Now you just need to get the accouterments!

Geez, your tuition is about the same as my annual income!

I've never understood charging more for out of state students. I mean, if I owned a restaurant, checked people's drivers licences at the door, and charged out of state patrons 20% more, I'd probably find myself in trouble, as I'm pretty sure that's illegal.

And heres a list of handguns that cost more than my Hi-Point that i got rid of because they were GARBAGE!
1.Tanfoglio GT-27
2.Intratec sport .22
3.Helwan 9mm
4.Sistema Colt 1911

Nightcrawler - It's because public universities get money from the state for in-state students. Everyone has the same tuition, but the state government subsidizes tuition for residents.

Tropical Z - Hey, I agree with you on this one. For a 9mm carbine, there is no better deal than a Hi-Point Carbine. The next best would probably be a lever-action cowboy carbine.

Ronin - Muahaha! All the accessory goodies are coming in the same package! :) Belt, holsters, powder flask, ammo components...the only bit I'm not getting is a nice presentation case. So I'm going to try my hand at making one. :p
