Firearms that bring out the inner child in you

Johnny Seven One Man Army!
I always wanted one of those, they were so cool.
But today, I'll take the Barrett.

¿Caballero o Vaquero?

"They were called caballeros, says Donald Gilbert Y Chavez, a historian of the cowboy's Spanish origins.

"One of the highest stations you could have in life was to be a caballero," said Chavez, a resident of New Mexico whose lineage can be traced to the Don Juan de Oñate colony, the caballero who was among the first cowboys in the U.S."

The word "caballero" in Spanish means, literally, "horseman", and came to also mean "gentleman", as only gentlemen (as opposed to peasants or peons) rode horses. A "caballero andante" is a knight. "Ladies and Gentlemen" in Spanish is "Damas y Caballeros".

So the word "caballero" has nothing to do with working with cattle. The Spanish-speaking cowboys in the Old West called themselves "vaqueros" (from "vaca" for "cow"). It is from the word "vaquero" that we get the word "buckaroo", which is what real working cowboys call themselves to this day.

And, just to make sure I include the requisite reference to guns,
let me mention that Ruger manufactures a single-action sixgun called the "Vaquero", which was made to evoke the look of the Colt SAA that was so commonly used in the Old West.

I second Shootniron.
The most childish fun I get from firearms is the one that comes from my 39a (and from my .36 Remington New Navy 1858 aswell).

My daughter's Rem 31 single shot bolt 22 youth rifle,or my Chipmunk.Muzzle loaders .Rolling Blocks, particularly if loaded with charcoal

Daisy Red Rider BB Gun

There is no doubt for me. The Daisy Red Rider BB Gun was a major moment in my youth. I am sure that was true for many guys born in the last 80 years. It's like learning to ride a bike without training wheels. It's like going on your first date. It's like Citizen Kane and "Rosebud" (look it up or just watch the movie).

Nylon Rifle

Shooters:
I used to lust after the Nylon 22 Rifle that Rem made and advertised in Boys Life. Bought one at an auction a couple year ago, cleaned it up and enjoy shooting it. I've got the model with the detachable magazine and the after market magazines are pure junk. Fortunately I've also got the original five shot mag. too.

I have to much trouble controlling my "Outer Child".
No way I'm gonna bring out the "Inner child".

They would probably fight.

I don't know why, but I just love shooting this gun.

My Daisy Spittin' Image,,,

I often sit out in my yard,,,
Watching a movie on DVD through the open window,,,
Plinking away at beer cans with my Daisy Spittin' Image BB rifle.

I didn't drink beer when I was a kid,,,
But my Dad and his brothers sure did,,,
I had a never ending stream of easy targets.

My SAA clone brings out my inner Marshall Dillon,,,
My Taurus 25-PLY brings out my inner James Bond,,,
Someday I'll get a double-rifle to channel my inner Stewart Granger.

But nothing makes me feel like a kid again,,,
As much as my Trusty Daisy rifles.
