Finding 9mm load to cycle this gun

The shooter is my son-in-law who is an experienced revolver shooter but this is his first experience with a semi-auto pistol.
First he shot 100 rounds of the Federal factory ammo without any failures.

I have a few questions:

Is it possible he has limp wrist problem? Maybe got tired or sloppy with the hold? Low power rounds will show this issue, by increasing the load you can mask this issue.

If you shoot the same pistol do you experience the same issues?

How many magazines show this issue? I'm not convinced the mags are the issue just want to try to rule them out.

Have you compared your rounds to the Federal's that worked? Are the dimensionally the same? I tend to think this is part of the issue. I had issues finding the correct dimensions for my Luger with similar issues.

Is this a new pistol? Some have break in periods that will have issues then things will improve. By your count I can account for 140 rounds and the break in for some is 500.

Berry's lists Max velocity 1,250 fps. I'm reasonably certain you have not exceeded this but want to be sure.

I really love Berry's plated bullets. I also use a lot of Xtreme plated bullets. Berry's absolutely knows how to make bullets, and I would never even hint that I know as much about Berry's bullets as Berry's does.

However!
With that said...
I have no real idea of how -MANY- loaded rounds Berry's has actually handloaded and made and tested with their bullets. But I can say with hard data behind it that I have loaded tens of thousands of these bullets. Documented.

And I load Berry's and Xtreme bullets in .380, .38 Spl, 9mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP to jacketed bullet load data and typically, max published or just below.

Again, I do not know more about Berry's bullets than Berry's does, but unless Berry's is loading 10k a year of them and shooting them, them eventually -- I will catch and surpass them.

I suggest you load them with jacketed bullet load data. In .357, .41, .44 Mag? NO! In the above mentioned chamberings? Oh heck yes.
