Finally picked sides on the Glock vs. 1911 debate

You haven't seen either of my Kimbers.

I could show you quite a few that fit that description

Denfoote - sorry to dissapoint you but the Springfield loaded model in the pic so far has run 100% reliable, even with my low-powered handguns.

I forgot to mention:"... that didn't cost an arm and a leg!!!" How much you pay for those marvelous, nifty Kimbers and Brazilian Springfields??? The one I had my eye on, a Kimber Ultra Carry,...once... was well in excess of $1000!!!
 My G36 cost $439 thank you very much!!!!!! :p :p :p

I have a 399$ Charles Daly 1911A1 that has been 100% reliable to date, without one visit to a gunsmith.

Doesn't that make my Charles Daly 1911 better than your Glock 36? Not only did it not cost "well in excess of $1000!!!", it was even less than your expensive "439$" G36! :p

;) :D

I never have understood this "unreliability" thing for the 1911. I've owned a dozen or so, from one of serial #4,xxx on up to Series 70. All of them always functioned properly.

Shot IPSC for three years, back in '81-'83. Never had a problem. Not even with my own "home brew" relatively minor mods.

I always figured if you like a Glock better than a 1911, that's what you oughta have--particularly if you can shoot better with it. Same argument in favor of the 1911, or a Beretta or Sig or any other brand.

I dunno. Maybe Colt's quality control during the last 20 years is not what it should be. Maybe these various clones are "some good, some bad". Easy fix: Buy an old, rusty clunker and rebuild it. Get a GI or Series 70 frame (or older) and slide and then easily build as reliable a pistol as anybody could ever want.

My gun has a low bore axis which limits muzzle flip. There is little leverage in recoil.
The slide sets low in relation to the hand.
The trigger is short, controllable, and resets quickly.
The fits most hand well.
The gun is fast on target, controllable.
The gun is quick to reload and stay in action.

Which gun am I talking about, Glock or 1911?
Food for thought.

I don't understand?

Can't we all just get along?

I mean, the Glock is a wonderful example of confluence of design, and the obvious next step in European tactical doctrine which held that handguns must be simple to use and operate because
the military and special teams would concentrate upon long guns.
It surpassed all requirements. It works, and works well. It is a fine gun.

On the other hand the 1911 was discovered on a rock
in the desert by the great Mormon gunsmith, John Moses Browning. That makes the Glock kind of pale in comparison.
