Finally, my first HK

The only question boils down to HK45 or USPc or P30.

You should check out the HK45C.

Best ergonomics of any .45 caliber HK, plus it's super accurate and feeds anything including JHPs, TCs & SWCs.

I love HK! HK is the be all and end all of everything in the firearms universe. I do not say that in jest. I really mean it. If anyone doubts my assertion they dont own an HK. HK is for the most discriminating. The aged fine wine.

Everyone should own an HK and I am very serious. 5 stars.

lol. Tell us how you really feel.

That all depends on what your factors for discrimination are. I agree that HK's are awesome, but they are not the "be all end all of everything". They are combat handguns. They are generally very reliable and quite accurate. Ergonomics vary depending on model. They will never have a trigger as good as a Sig, CZ, or Sphinx to name a few.

I would ask what other guns you have owned which led you to your opinion?

Huge congrats on the HK, I've a big fan of them for 15 years. If it wasn't for those early production Sigs I would own a whole lot more HKs. :)

I guess on my birthday I will be doing a little more shooting with the HK, and my new TP9 ... Good thing Federal came out with the new Federal aluminum rounds for 40 and 9mm ... 14.95 and 9.97 for both I believe....

In that pic, the thumb lever on both of your HK's is marked only with a "safe" and "fire" position. I thought that the HK's also had a third position on that thumb lever, further down, for "decock". ???

There is no mark indicating decock since it is not a static position. It springs back up to the fire fire mark if you push it down to decock. No USP has a decocker marking.

Thanks for that info. I have some concerns that, when clicking off the safety in an emergency, that the shooter might inadvertently go all the way down to decock. Have you (or any other HK DA/SA shooter) found that to be a problem?

Some people have expressed that same concern. I have never found that to be an issue myself, but it is possible to convert the gun to a V9 with a simple $10 detend plate which removes the decocking ability and makes the safety lever function like a 1911.

In these instances you would just need to lower the hammer with the thumb as you would on a 1911. Not a big deal for most people.

When I shot 1911s I rode the safety. When I bought a V1 USP 45 and rode the safety it would occasionally decock during recoil. I switched that gun to V9 (safety/no de-cock) with just a detent plate switch (easy & cheap on a V1 gun).

Now I have a V1 HK45C and there is a nagging thought that I might de-cock and hold the lever down during an emergency. I now train every time to flip off safe and get my thumb back on the frame, under the lever, but I'm still thinking about switching this gun to V9 as well, just to be sure.

Never had any such issues in 3-4K rounds through two USPs. I have heard several such as yourself question it but I don't really think it's much of a concern.
