Finally got my first Remington 700!

Got a Remington 700 VTR in a trade for an Maadi kit yesterday! I'm freakin' excited to shoot this thing. Have wanted a 700 for years.

Now, I know this isn't the typical 700. So I was wondering, what stocks can I get for replacement stocks? Was looking particularly at chassis systems. Love the look of the XLR and Tac21, however the Tac21 is much more affordable. Will these fit? Also need a detach mag kit, I think that might be included in the chassis? Let me know if I'm wrong. Also would appreciate any tips on any modifications that I might be interested in. Love customizing my rifles. Also, what's the difference between a BDL, CDL, ADL, etc. People keep asking me if it's a BDL. One guy on another forum told me that VTR that classification...that it's not a BDL, CDL, nor a ADL.

BDL simply means it has a floorplate for unloading. An ADL has a blind magazine. A DBM has a detachable box magazine. There are a lot of variants of all 3 magazine systems. Your VTR is one variant of the BDL. A CDL is just a different variant of the BDL, but with a more classic styled stock.

Remington started the ADL, BDL terminology, but it has been adopted by most custom stock makers. When ordering, even for brands other than Remington you will often be asked if you need a BDL or ADL stock. The terms have come to simply mean floor plate or blind mag on any brand of gun.

I believe its is classified simply VTR. Not ADL, BDL, CDL

I am not sure what I think about chassis systems. I don't like a whole lot of "stuff" on my rifle that I really have little use for and the chassis system would just make it so that I could put stuff on a rifle I don't want/need more stuff on.

You might be thinking, "well you get the adjustable cheek rest and adjustable length of pull" and you would be right. But if I am going to build myself a rifle I want it to fit "me" and I would figure out what my ideal length of pull is and have a stock with that length of pull.

Something I am forced to consider is that I am left handed, and I want a left handed bolt action. It narrows down my options for scope makers. But when I build myself a precision bolt action I want the stock to be Mcmillan. They are ultra durable, ultra strong, selection from light to heavy stocks, every kind of stock from traditional to tactical, and they will produce one for you in any color scheme you desire. You tell them what you want in a rifle stock and they will make what you desire.

And at a price less than that of your major chassis systems.

Drool over the Mcmillan Tactical selection for a bit and you might get an idea of where I am coming from.

Ah. Thanks, simple enough.

I don't think many people truly know the difference. Lol. I've heard anywhere from the type of stock, to the barrel details, to the bolt type.

VTR means Varmit Tactical Rifle. BDL ADL etc is the magazine type. You have a VTR with BDL magazine from the factory. If you order a custom stock you can then Specify what magazine type you have. Remington has made many, many different versions of both ADL and BDL. Some guys get confused with all the different models and try to make this more complex than needed. When ordering a stock order ADL if you want a blind mag, Bdl if you want a floor plate and DBM if want a detachable mag. Nothing else matters
