"Fill it up, sir?"

Keep in mind that the majority of the cost of a gallon of gas is in taxes. In 1998, the cost of a gallon of gas actually went down by .27/gal, but the price at the pumps went up by .28/gal because of tax increases. If you were to strip the taxes out of gas prices, it would be around .45/gal. Don't that burn yer shorts?
"What's that, sir? You would like a fill-up? OK, then B.O.H.I.C.A."

Let's see, inflation is non-existent according to Mr. Greenjeans...uh, Greenspan, eh?
OK, Alan, 'splain dis:
Cost in 1970 Cost today
Bread- .39/loaf $1.79/loaf
milk- 1.25/gal 2.50+/gal
cereal- 1.30/box 3.00+/box
eggs- .39/doz .99/doz

If that isn't inflation, please tell me what inflation is, Mr. Greencrap. Then kiss my big ol' hairy white butt.

You want to stop ya whining, for here in Australia it's anywhere between 70.9c to 87c per LITRE !
And "we" produce about 70 % of our own crude oil !
Arrrrrgggghhhhhh :(

Oh, but HS!

Look at all the wonderful government benefits those taxes provide for you!

(Four-layer Nomex jumpsuit - check! Ankle-length helmet - check!) ;)

Quick question:

What in tarnation does this have to do with guns?

(that's a hint, fellows.)

Coinn, you haven't paid close enough attention! Many of us have gun-related sayings in our sig lines, so there's some gun content. And we mentioned the Gulf War and the war in Chechnya, which involve guns, so there's some more.
(translation--I dunno.) :)

KJM, you should be an Irish poet. Cheer up, dude. All things must pass, including Democrats.

Here's some gun content--let's start shipping every American with a gun out of the Middle East region with a promise not to interfere until the price drops, in groups of 1,000 or so at a time. If there's a carrier group in the area, of course, they'd have to go all at once.

Better yet, let's politely hint to the guvm't that we have more guns than they do and we'd appreciate a break on energy taxes. For all the good that will do.

Gunter, I feel your pain, as a great American hero once said. I don't know the conversion either but I think there are more than 3 liters per gallon, maybe four. But again, look at all the wonderful things your government does for you! Is Austrian gov't as bad as the German in that respect?

My caddy is a big beast but it's got the coolest little bitty 4.5 liter V8. It got 32 mph when I bought it last summer but something's not right now, I'm lucky to get over 22 on the highway and rarely get over 10 in town. Thank God I don't go anywhere.

Gun content--if we didn't have a commute life style (looking for a way out) in California suburban areas I could buy a whole lot more guns and ammo. And you better believe that is exactly what I would do.

Anyway, $1.35 is the cheapest when available, $1.48 to $1.50 is more consistent low price and $1.68 normal around freeway exits for 87. I don't even look at the higher octane stuff.

And what is this thing about prices and proximity to refineries? We keep getting the excuse that the accidents happening at the several local refineries keep prices up. Wonder whether the 'accidents' are scheduled in some way to keep the cost consistent.

I was over in Kuwait Jul-Nov 99... Price of gas...... 32 cents. I guess oil has gotten heavier, meaning higher shipping cost... j/k. When crooks run the gov't, they don't hesitate to steal.

I feel some of your pain(no, I'm not related to Clinton). I just drove back from the gun store and stopped for gas - $1.27/gal. for unleaded was the best deal I saw just north of Richmond, Va. John

Our prices are 145-149. Cant drive my dodge with a 440 too much. Have to stick with the lil 4 banger =(

I stocked up on 220 gallons of gasoline for Y2K. Primarily, it was in case of supply shortages, but secondarily it was as a hedge against a short-term price spike. Oddly enough, both scenarios seem to be what we're experiencing....

My gas was purchased at $1.20/gallon last September, and I was bitching because two weeks prior, it was $1.10.

Also, approx FOUR liters/gallon.

And you are ALL missing one TIIIIIIINNNNNNY little point: The price of fuel will drive the price of ALL goods higher, which will generate demands for higher wages to "compensate".

Remember? We already went through that once before. Took 15 years or so to pull out. I am SO glad that my basement is full of "cheap" food. Guess there are OTHER reasons to "prepare", eh?

Gunter, a US gallon is 3.6 liters. I don't have the proper conversion factor from USD to Schilling handy.

Wie geht's sonst in Oesterreich?

Thought you were an expatriate like me at first. We truly are an international board.

Hey a gas thread IS gun related, unless you cycle to buy your guns, ammo, powder, shootin' stuff & then maybe roller blade with your FAL, M-16, 3 x 1911s on ya back to the Range with all the ammo etc in tow (little red wagon) behind you !
(chuckle at the thought) ;)

It's $1.399 here in north Texas, but here anyway 54 to 64 cents of that price is state and federal taxes. Think about that for a minute. Almost 1/3 of the price is going to the government. Now would the Coward in Chief do something like ahhhh roll that tax back say sometime in Sept or Oct. of this year?

Our solution is as obvious as the noses on our faces. We were always told that we were killing innocent Iraqi woment and children with our bombs. Well lets stake out an area in that desert we overran and put up some oil wells! Oil doesn't feed one person so they aint gonna starve. Ship the oil to the US market with the originating country not getting a cent and all the other OPEC bloodsuckers not getting a cent and two things will happen:1)Gas prices will go down and Saddam will never have cash to raise another large army and 2)Without the US market who is OPEC really gonna sell to? They will have a glut and prices will FALL BIGTIME! Sure other countries will scream and call us environmental rapists and what not but they will never screw with us again for fear of losing all their natural resources. OR form an alliance with an oil producing non-OPEC country for specific rights to the US market at a reduced rate. The only hangup is going to be will we offend our arab "friends" by leaving their markets. As a member of "The Great Satan" I say leave 'em in thier dust!

One ticked off, over taxed, and gun toting American!

I was pissed that gas had risen to $1.21-1.23, here in Georgia. Seems like I should be thankful.

But Georgia's taxes have always been lower than most states.

OTOH, I drive an Explorer about 100 miles a day, roundtrip, to work.. about 6 gal. a day.. so I'm not too happy, anyway.
