Every dealer in my area (Balto. MD) charge a flat fee of $50 to trasnfer a gun from another dealer. I was just curious as to how much other dealers charge from diffrent areas. Dont forget to state where you are !

My local range in Newington, Virginia, charges $15 and American Arms in Manassas, Virginia, indicates a $20 charge on their Internet site.

Many places around here charge $50. I've seen a few advertise for $25.
Greg Monte of the Jersey City Armory ( www.jcarmory.com ) only charges $15. I try to do business with him only when buying new guns. Great guy to deal with, and very fair too.

Philadelphia, PA area ranges from $20 to 60.

$10-10% in New Mexico. The $10 is by a gun collector who needs to transfer a certain number of guns for others to maintain his FFL for his "business." Check out www.shotgunnews.com --- there is list of FFL holders in your area.

In Texas and Oklahoma it is $10-$20 depending on where you go. There is a Dallas dealer advertising on the web for $10 transfers. Those rates are if you do all the work including postage and phone calls, all the dealer does in log in the gun when it shows up and transfers it to you when you show up to get it. In Pa. why do they charge for NICS? It is free to the FFL, paid for by tax dollars.

Here in central Louisiana, most FFL's are reluctant to ONLY do transfers. If you regularly do business with them, then they gladly will do it for $20. Here's one of those cases where if you don't do business with your local dealer, you pay for it.

San Diego, expect $25 to 10% of cost. You also have to pay the shipping. I found two guys that would charge $5 plus DROS($15), but lost their numbers.

Here in Santa Barbara, it's 10%, plus $15 DROS, plus 7.5% tax for a dealer transfer. Turns a good deal into a turd real fast. For a private exchange, it will generaly run you $30 plus $15 DROS.

I asked a gun shop in Campbell (near San Jose, CA). I don't know what the total would have been; I tuned out when he started going on about a percentage of the sale, and sales tax, etc. (for a used gun  ).

Fortunately, I had picked up a local FFLs card at a gun show. He charges $30 per transaction, including fees. Of course, that doesn't include whatever it takes to ship the firearm to him, but that's my problem.

Has anyone tried a pawnshop? In central Iowa, most GunShops charge a flat $25, one charges $50 (high volume operation, and they don't want the hassle). The pawn shops in the area charge $10 to $15, which doesn't seem like a big difference, but as Grandpa says: "A buck is a buck!"
