In under five minutes, two well armed criminals shot and killed four California Highway Patrol Officers, Walter Frago, Roger Gore, James Pence, Jr. and George Allen. Officer Pence, who had taken .45 slugs to both legs and to his chest was executed with a shot to his head while trying to reload his .357 magnum revolver. He was found with the spent shells in his pants pocket, just as he had trained at the range.
Not only did police firearms change afterwards, but so did thier tactics.
