Feral Hog Sightings?

There are 5 of us that go out west every year to shoot prairie dogs. This year we were thinking about going somewhere to shoot hogs instead and have had no luck so far. The only places we have found to hunt are basically hog lots where they raise the pigs and turn them loose in a fenced lot and charge you $300 to shoot them.

I don't see it to big of a problem as it is made out to be. In SD the farmers are happy to let us shoot for free to help get ride of the prairie dogs. We always offer to help around the farm if there is anything we can do while we are there

Strangely, no. I hunt in LaSalle Parish, Louisiana, in the central part of the state, and for years, feral hogs were a nuisance to be dealt with. On our lease, we haven't seen any hogs in several years.

Our lease, like most of the rest of that area is a pine-growing area and active oilfield. There isn't any commercial agriculture in the area and we just don't have any hogs. However, in this state, unmarked hogs are considered fair game during the active deer season, and in some places are considered depredators, and can be taken at any time. We have a rule on our lease that feral hogs are to be put down immediately. The shooter can either use them for meat or dispose of them at his discretion, but they are to be shot immediately.

If I see one tomorrow morning, I'll put him down and take him to the processor. Wild pork is plenty good eating.

starting to surface

We are getting reports, but I have not seen any.......yet. A big exclusive club next to the local WMA has killed 3 this year, but none reported killed on the WMA itself (Freedom HIlls).

Bankhead NF (black warrior WMA) 50-60 miles south, has got'em bad, and and they are holding special scheduled hunts, which are not having much effect.

We have them here in East Texas, I have been trying to Kill one the last couple of days, but they are just coming out at night right now.
After Deer Season, I will probably go Hog Hunting with some of my buddies that have Hog Dogs.

Whether they leg them or shoot over the dogs, You oughta have a blast but the hands on is my favorite adrenaline rush!

I was just wondering a few things, one thing being if there is anyone in IN that would feel like taking a new hunter under their wing to show him the ropes, second does anyone know where there may be Wild Hogs in IN, and finally if anyone knows any place in FL that you can hunt Hogs for free, I am going down there in a few weeks and would like to try my hand at bow hunting some hogs, but i am very straped for cash? So if anyone has any answers to any of these questions please email me at william.wolfe22@yahoo.com

hogs gone wild

i used to hunt in south texas and there were hogs everywhere. it won't be long and there will be hogs tearing up your yard and attacking your kids.also seen them in indiana, kentucky, california, louisiana, and arkansas.i totaled a car intexas when i hit one and he is probably still alive.they are tough and very dangerous. shot one in texas that the whole pack run me up a tree for a couple hours. scary they are going to overrun every state including canada if we don't get to killing them.

You keep coming out here. I have a real problem with folks poisoning dogs and would much prefer to have folks shoot them. Not only on private land but there are tons of dogs on public land too. I believe some of the Reservations have big towns which for they will gladly sell you a license to shoot dogs on.

Another pet peeve of mine is what has been said about folks wanting to shoot hogs and the ranchers charging too much to do it. Personally if someone wants to shoot an introduced invasive species which a feral hog really is, then it's a non issue. Deer or some exotic species would be something altogether different. Locally, a lot of the farmers will have their hand out if you want to shoot pheasants, another introduced species, but enough birds can be found on public land to make it well worth the effort. With much of the CRP gone in favor of grains the pheasant numbers are going down where I live anyway. No more 300 bird flushes.

Hogbuster, #1 son is into getting them with dogs, most of their hunting is up Hwy 15 on the reserve. Doing pretty good too! I get reports of sightings all over the north end of the parish, there's also a couple of guys that are known to trap them in populated areas and transplant them to areas where there were none before. You can't fix stupid! I'm kinda stove up and can't participate in the dog hunts, but just got a report of regular sightings at a spot along the levee, so gonna take my 30/40AI Martini and see if I can do any damage. The worst year ever the problem is underestimated in my opinion what's scary is the number of little bitty hoglets I've seen this year I've killed so many pigs that I couldn't post every one
