Strangely, no. I hunt in LaSalle Parish, Louisiana, in the central part of the state, and for years, feral hogs were a nuisance to be dealt with. On our lease, we haven't seen any hogs in several years.
Our lease, like most of the rest of that area is a pine-growing area and active oilfield. There isn't any commercial agriculture in the area and we just don't have any hogs. However, in this state, unmarked hogs are considered fair game during the active deer season, and in some places are considered depredators, and can be taken at any time. We have a rule on our lease that feral hogs are to be put down immediately. The shooter can either use them for meat or dispose of them at his discretion, but they are to be shot immediately.
If I see one tomorrow morning, I'll put him down and take him to the processor. Wild pork is plenty good eating.
