Actually I should have voted twice since I have two duty guns set up with two complete duty rigs. The first and oldest is my 1911 setup for my Kimber and the other is for my Glock 21, the Glock gets carried the most.

S&W 4506-1 here. the gun is fine in the reliability and accuracy department, but it has horrid ergonomics. This was issued by my PD, and I have no say in it.

Well, actually, thats not true. I could write the chief a letter reqesting to be allowed to use some other gun, and a few weeks later I would be told no. ;)

Anyway, we use 230 gr Hydra-shoks. I'm fine with the hydras. they make big holes. :D

Our department allows any quality semi-automatic pistol with
at least a 7 round capacity / 3.5 to 5.5" barrel and a firing pin
lock. We do not issue weapons. Although I am qualified with my
P-99 (9mm), Browing HP MkIII (9mm), and my Colt 1991 (.45),
my full time duty/off duty pistol is my Glock 19. It serves both
duties well and I do not have to transition in my habits or hold
between duty and off-duty carry. I've never had a malfunction
with this pistol in several thousand rounds fired.

Of the choices mentioned I would pick the Sig or the Beretta
over the CZ and possibly the P-99 just due to the availability
of holsters for the first two designs. It's hard enough to find
the right holster without having your options limited.

Just my thoughts,

Our issue weapon is a s&w 5906. Do I like it? The only thing that I like about it is it's incredible reliability.

If I had a choice of what I could carry, it would be either a 1911 or a G21.

A blast from the past

My Uncle, who just retired from the LAPD, was a bank robbery investigator who wore civvies. His only carry throughout his entire career was the venerable Smith and Wesson Mod 37 Chief's special which he carried tucked into his belt at the small of his back.

My cousin, who was a former uniformed police officer with the Daly City Police Dept (Calif), carried a Colt Python. My, how times have changed.

Issued and must carry the Glock 23, which is not at all a bad pistol. Given the choice, I would carry the Beretta 92/96 series. I seem to shoot the Berettas much more accurately.

I tote the Sig P220 most of the time , but I am also qualified to carry a government modle 1911. Really truly, it depends on what kind of mood I'm in.

For uniformed duty the Sig gets the nod. For plainclothes I'll usually tote the government model in a Fobus holster just because I dont have to thread a belt into it and I can just slip it in my waistband.

My dept. issues the .45 Glock, but you are allowed to tote anything that you qualify with. Since I never could get used to that danged trigger on a Glock, I tote the Sig as do several other officers on the dept. Most are .45's but there are a few that tote a 9mm Sig. I like the 9 as you can carry lots of ammo on your belt.

I always figured that with 3 mags of ammo, (I use the 8 rounders) that it ought to be able to get me back to the car where I can pull out an AR or a 12 guage.

Duty ammo is the 185 grained Win. Silvertip. It is very accurate an the Sig shoots dead on with it. The Government model shoots about 2 inches high at 25 yards.

For concealed carry (everyday), I have a 4" Compact Springfield. While I like my 1911's, the best pistol I have ever owned is a 1990 vintage Sig 220. When concealment isn't an issue, the 220 goes to work.
