Feels like Shooting season is extended

l shoot benchrest only in the warmer months, We shoot, exchange information & stories, its a nice day with a good group of people. I miss that when the cold weather sets in. Now with this forum I have the same thing, we don't shoot together but I can shoot the breeze with a good group of people. Thanks for making the cold months enjoyable. Chris

I typically buy guns every two weeks and go to the range every 6 months.
But once a year I do a month in the sagebrush of shooting. At the range I have to shoot when the winds are so low I can get a 1" group. I watch Accuweather hourly forecast.

I would like to bicycle 12 miles every day for exercise. It has been raining almost non stop since Christmas. I keep checking accuweather. I will bike once every 3 days in the rain, if desperate.

So I am just doing gunsmithing. Trying to design the universal Mauser bedding, typing on the internet, and watching the Seahawks get eliminated from the playoffs.

CW308,
Maybe you could find an indoor place to have your fun, with pellet rifles.
Ten yards is plenty.
Anyone in your group with a heated garage?

Good that we have been able to keep your spirits up some. There has been some lousy rainy weather out here in the usual warm and sunny good old southland, or whatever you want to call it, that must be mindful somewhat of LINY, just lacking the three feet of snow and the minus 30 degree temperatures. So maybe that evens things out a bit and I'll try to keep from continually rubbing it in. Actually we do not have 365 good shooting days a year, just 364 (oops, I just said I would quit rubbing it in ;) ).

Clark,
I've considered investing in a wetsuit and a speargun for shooting in the PNW… don't need flippers cause you just walk outside.

There have been someday this year where the scuba tanks might have been a help though.

I like to shoot 22 indoors with friends . We play tic tac toe , battle ship and other games . Are targets to hit are not any bigger then a pencil eraser so it's not all that easy . We do the same thing with handguns .

I'm in San Diego it was 70' today so I pretty much am able to shoot year round but sometimes just fun shooting game can really be fun .

You guy's are bad. I'd bet here in the northeast we have more colds & stomach viruses then you. Guess you can't have everything.

Yes, but you're a better man than I am; being able to survive in those miserable nor-eastern blizzards and living to tell about it. ;)

Touche' on your contrasting come-back. A few cacti and scorpins would be welcome since I am not presently in that area. Instead my current location is 34.2750 degrees N Lat and 119.2278 degrees W Lon. But it won't take more than than two minutes to identify that location, and then back to cabin fever and the forever deepening LINY snowfall. And with the rest of Jan and Feb up ahead, they say that the worst has yet to arrive.

CB, well l was close, Jan- Feb. Did you have to remind me. Today its ice on the steps , light coat of snow on the ground , temps in the 20's & the wife wants me to help her with the grocery shopping. Just a perfect start of the day.

OK but when returning from shopping, or from anywhere else, be sure to leave your rifle out in the cold. Bringing it inside could cause condensing moisture to freeze the next time out and perhaps cause the action and trigger to ice up and freeze as well. Seems like I read something like that somewhere if you were living in the Yukon.

CB, You have a warped sense of humor like myself, l can't stop laughing at this first vedio a friend sent me, check it out. 10 funniest Gun FAILS - You Tube

I would like to check out the 10 funniest gun fails but don't see how to get to it. Oh, that same gun freeze up article also said to keep your rifle out in the cold when coming indoors if you were living in LINY as well as the Yukon. Just can't be too careful these days.

Follow up:
Yes I did get to it; kind of a blast to be sure!

I might be crazy, but I bundled up and hit the range last Saturday here in Minnesota. Air temp high of 2f, wind chill -8f with fresh powder snow. I was shocked to see a dozen or so people also out getting their shooting fix. :D

308Loader, your a better man then me. I just hate the cold. Even setting up the target is a pain, don't like shooting with gloves. When I can see my breath or can't stop my nose from running, that's when I bring my shooting indoors.

I agree with you. One of the (many) reasons I hate NY State. It's too cold to shoot for about 7 months of the year, to hot and humid for about 3 months, raining for a combined month in early Spring and Fall and you get about 2 weeks between Spring and Summer and 2 more between Summer and Fall when it's actually decent. I go shooting 3, maybe 4 times a year and half of that is to sight in for deer season.
