Feelings on Governor

I agree on the .45 being superior, did you miss this part
and were NOT going to use .45 Colt ammo,
?

If you are going to use .410, I think the slug would be better than buckshot.
If you're smart, you'll use the .45 (either one). JMNHO. ;)

I'd buy a Governor in a heartbeat if they made one without that darn lock.

(How's that for opening a can of worms?)

I'd buy one in a heartbeat if the stupid laws in California allowed it

Gary

I'd never thought about buying one at all until I watched a Hickock 45 video shooting a Taurus Judge. Man that thing looked like fun.

(Believe it or not, some people just like to shoot for the fun of it.)

I doubt I'll ever buy one, but if I did, it would probably be a governor.

The above posted video's are quite interesting...With the right ammo these 410/45 revolvers can be very effective ..

Don't think much of the idea

I think they are hideous and can't wrap my head around the concept.
It tries to do too much and ends up not really excelling at anything.

The Thunder Five was invented and produced 8 miles from my home...came around years before 410 handgun ammo...

With the RIGHT ammo the 410 /45 LC is a sound concept ....for SD at SD distances...its a tool that works ..but it has limitations, like all CC SD handguns..

I posted earlier a couple of you tube links where the Taurus Judge PD is tested with proper ammo ..and goes head to head with a Springfield compact carry 45acp..

A lot of people don't like them. I have a public defender and the thing is awesome. It shoots 45lcs exceptionally accurately for a 2in. At 7 yards the made for judge shotgun shells hold in about a 3 in group and penetrate pretty well. North of 10in.

They are a jack of all trades master of none but they are a lot of fun and very versatile. I think 45super's in a governor would be pretty impressive while still being able to use the lc and 410s but I just carry a 625 in 4in.

The Governor weighs less than a full-size 1911, so I wouldn't call it a boat anchor. The frame and barrel shroud are scandium (aluminum alloy).
I have carried some big guns, but one I never carry is my stainless Springfield 1911A1 Loaded. I had in mind the Governor's bulky 6 shot cylinder along with the overall awkward appearance. My stainless Judge seems more in proportion with a 5 shot, 2 1/2" cylinder.

Regardless, neither your gun nor mine are getting any respect here.

kind of a big giant snubnose.

Giant snubby?

That's like "Jumbo Shrimp" and "Military Intelligence", right?

If I'm going to carry a gun of that size, it better have more than 5 shots .....

The Governor weighs less than a full-size 1911,

It's not the weight- the 1911 is flat and carries well IWB. I honestly could not find a way to carry an sp101 in any way that could be construed as concealed and comfortable at the same time, and it's tiny compared to that thing .....

Those of you that actually carry this or the Judge: how exactly do you pull that off?

Pics plz.

Lumping the Governor and Judge together can be confusing. The Judge carries like a medium frame 44 special, or Magnum for that matter. Those would be five shot too. The Governor is a large frame gun to accommodate the fatter, 6 round cylinder.

There seem to be many more holster choices available for the Judge. In terms of concealment, the Judge may have the advantage.

Both are thick through the middle - quibbling which is thinner is like arguing which dumptruck is quicker in a 1/4 mile ..... both are large framed revolvers, and large framed revolvers with 3" long cylinders, at that.

Just how does one carry a gun that big?

Pics, 'cause I'm not seeing it......

I had a raging judge magnum with a 8 inch barrel. The thing was HUGE! A blast to shoot but TOTALLY impractical for anything i did. And WAY too big to carry easilly. Actually way to big for even moderate difficulty carrying. I also did not like the performance of shotshells from the gun. I would prefer a dedicated .44 mag, .454 casul or s&w .500 and use their respective shot shells if i wanted a "snake shot" round. I wound up selling mine and would never look to buy one again
Just my opinion take it for what it is worth

My Taurus Poly PD carries great ..20 oz ...Size smaller than a K frame snubbie....I carry it in a $8.00 Nylon Slide ..high and tight ...

Pictured with a Rossi 44 mag ..which is built on a Taurus Compact frame..

I typically carry 2 N frame revolvers a 625/627/629. 625 has become my primary with one of the others as a back up depending on what i'm doing. They are much larger then a governor. Just requires a good belt and holsters.

You're mistaken in the case of the basic Judge with 2 1/2 chambering (not magnum 3") and 3" barrel like mine.

The 5 shot versus 6 shot size is just as significant in circumference and then bulk as for any hand gun in any caliber that tries to fit in 6 rounds without having only marginal chamber wall thickness. An S&W L frame (medium) versus a N frame (large) comparison is a similar comparison. We can't credibly suggest that they aren't different just for argument's sake. Another analogy might be a baseball versus a softball. They just aren't the same.

The Judge is not "thick through the middle". One should not confuse thickness with length. The cylinder length has virtually no effect on concealment compared to a 5 shot Bodyguard 44 Special, for example, except that the net length is more like carrying a 4" barrel in a smaller caliber.
