Feds Drop Charges Against Idaho man for Killing Grizzly!!

Grizzly Bears and Alligators should be treated as pests and hunted year round like wild boar. Just my opinion.

Uh, wow? Yes, let's exterminate ALL wild animals that will EVER attack humans! EVER!! I've been dive bombed by Purple Martins before, let's kill'em all!

Grizzlies ARE endangered in the US, that's why they are protected. Still, the guy should not have been charged or fined or ANYTHING for protecting his family. I think they should still not be hunted, or at least don't issue very many tags. If they are indeed no-longer endangered, then great! But I don't want to see them become endangered again.

I agree, I think the people on this forum that want to kill them when they're not even posing a threat or even close are just trigger happy. Take away their guns and give them a spear and see how excited they are to kill the bear.

Whenever bears and people mix, bears lose. You can see how their range has decreased in the Wiki article.

I got the above from Slamfire's post.

Going to have to call BS on the Wiki's bear range map. I live in Great Falls Montana and can tell you that we have grizzly bears being sighted out on the planes for the first time in a hundred years. Farmers and ranchers are seeing them far from the mountains. Hunters are seeing them more frequently in the mountains also. My personal oppinion is that the bear numbers are under reported in order to keep them on the endangered list.

+1, exactly the point. We are seeing these bears in areas where they have not been seen for over 60 years or more. But that is the goal of the conservationists to connect all of the grizzly recovery zones. They keep citing that the bears won't cross highways, well we have had two south of I-90 in Idaho killed. That implies that there are more here creating another population in the Bitterroots or they are bringing them here without telling anyone. That is the only conclusion.

I don't have a problem with having the bears in the area. My issue is treating them to a higher standard that people. That is not right period. These bears are large, aggressive and dangerous. It is the Fish and Game that kills more of these bears every year as nuisance bears that just about anyone else. The Jeremy Hill case illustrates the irrational approach to these bears.

Give me a break. Many have called for grizzly delisting for several years. The Feds have actually succeeded in bringing these creatures back to the lower 48. Not something that I agree with, but they are here and they are dangerous critters that need to be treated with the utmost respect for what they can do to a man very quickly.

Delisting does not mean that you would have open season hunting of these creatures, it simply means that people will be given the preference in real man-bear dangerous encounters as people should. Jeremy Hill should not have to pay any fine for simply protecting his family in the danger he perceived, even if in error. Bears should NOT be on property this close to town. A friend of mine who grew up here in Idaho on a ranch stated matter of fact, if he had a bear in his back yard, he would shoot it period. That is a bear that has lost its fear of man. In years past, that bear would not be tolerated and the bears respected man's presence.

I grew up in Alaska in Anchorage in part where they now have a huge bear problem. We lived at the top of O'Malley Road with nothing but woods on three sides of the house and then on the other side of the road. We never saw one bear anywhere near our home in all those years. Yet today, because of the tolerance of bears within city limits, they have become a huge hazard and nuisance. I believe that our tolerance of their presence in urban areas is the wrong way to go.

Sounds to me that he made up the children part to justify killing the bear. If he didnt know where his kids were, how did he know they werent in the line of fire?

Apparently Mr. Hill thought his kids were hiding in the pig pen with the pigs because he clearly stated that the grizzlies are in the area of the pig pen, approaching the pig pen that bears had previously attacked when it didn't hold kids, and he shot the one closest to him that was approaching the pen. So he could see the bear, but not his kids who must have been hiding amongst the pigs. That is how he could not see his kids or know where they were, but be able to see to shoot the bears...so long as he knew his target and what was beyond his target, he was safe to shoot.

To suggest otherwise would be to suggest that he shot to defend his pigs, which is clearly illegal.

Yes, majestic furry cute grizzlies are superior to pigs in a pen. So, the former get protection and to eat the farmer's pigs. Oh, wait. PEOPLE are superior to bears AND pigs but they DON'T get to save the pigs nor eat grizzlies. Something's off. Hmmm..., brown bears...

And who's been talking about delighting in killing a bear here? There are some characters around but this hasn't really attracted them. What gets me is the soft government tyranny.
