Federal Small Pistol Primers

If it was just that people are buying them up quickly, then you would still occasionally see them for sale. I haven't seen them in almost a year. You would see references to them on Gunbot, Gunbrokers, and Ammoseekers, but you don't. I just did a check on Gunbrokers and the only auction for Federal SPP is for a single 1000 brick in MI for local pickup only. That's pretty much how it's been for a long time. None of the large online retailers have had them in a long time.

What I've seen for the past few years is that once you see them for sale from retailers, you start seeing them on Gunbrokers at very high prices. The fact that this isn't the case tells me that no one that uses GB has been able to buy them.

If you are referring to the same post I saw on G.B., Dearborn MO is Missouri, not Michigan (MI).

In my area I haven't seen many Federal large or small pistol primers around. Winchester and CCI are prevalent at two LGS that stock reloading equipment. Occasionally Remington primers are available.

I've not notice any shortage in my area. I was in my LGS the other day and there were several bricks of them on the shelf. I personally have 500 on hand, I use Federal Small on one shooter that I have. CCI for everything else.

I emailed Federal on Sunday and got the following response: "Primers are heavily backordered at this time, we are still manufacturing and shipping primers to the reloading public."
This told me something that I already knew. Yeah, Federal, they are on backorder...and have been for about a year.
