Favorite Shotguns

SPAS 12
I'd agree with Darth 44 on the spas 15, but didnt have the 5G when my friend was selling his.
Instead, i'll stick with my pair of 12's as my favorites.

You're very welcome, Kehrby. I do know something about shotguns in general and 870s in particular. and I like to pass it on.

Favorite shotguns

My favorite is a Fox Sterlingworth 20 ga. that my great grandfather owned, left to my grandmother (who sold it to a local gun shop) and my father bought to keep it in the family. He gave it to me for Christmas when I was 14 (he didn't have money for presents after buying this gun). It was too nice for me to use, so I kept using his old 870 and I gave him back the Fox. I've got it now and I still don't use it - but do take it out of the safe every now and then, load a couple of snap caps and "fire" it. It's a great handling gun.
When I go out for grouse I still that use old 870 I used as a kid, it's not pretty but it just keeps working.

Browning Citori Feather XS 28ga.
Browning Citori Ultra XS 20ga.
Browning Citori Feather XS 12ga.
Winchester Super X2 12ga.
Remington 11-96 Euro LW 12ga.

favorite shotgun

That's like asking who is your favorite grandchild. Heck-Fire- I like em all. I have an old single barrel(40"long) "Long Tom"that was an uncle's. Still use it for squirrel with trap loads.
My two Parker Bros. 12's. One made in 1919 and the other in 1917. GREAT SHOOTERS!! My 870 Wingmasters(2 in 12 and 1 in 20). My Stevens 311(12 ga.) that I bought when I was 12, after working all summer. My ruger Red Label (12) and my Stoeger Arms .410 double( a great handling and shooting gun).
My favorite? I wouldn't want to part with any of 'em.;)

Remington 870 12 ga. My first shotgun. Been happy with it for years. Hunted with it (upland & big game), used it for defensive competition, shot skeet, clays etc. Only had 1 'shortstroke' and that was my fault.

Winchester 21 or 24? (big old heavy double) Not much to look at at but it works.

Always wanted a Benelli, but they were so expensive when they first came out, that if I wanted a semi auto I'd probably get an 11-87.

WORST Shotgun I EVER used was a savage pump 20 gauge.. damn thing fell apart on a grouse hunt (safety popped off). Love savage bolt rifles, but you'd have to pay me to make me use another of those cheap Savage Shotguns from the early 80's.

My first, is my favorite.

I bought her new in 1974, a Remington Mohawk-48 12GA autoloader. Not as fancy as an 1100 but it's been my constant companion both in the field and bustin' clays for 28 years. Not a single failure during these years and she still looks as beautiful as the day I brought her home.:D

I'd have to say my Benelli M121 is my favorite with the Ithaca 37 coming in second. Would like to try the Browning pump (I'm left handed) sometime.
Admittedly though I have more Mossberg 500s than anything else.

I only own two shotguns, so I guess they have to be my favorites....

870 Wingmaster (made in late 60's) mint condition

Winchester Model 12 - made in 50's (?) - well used but a great gun. Take down action is really cool feature.

870 all the way

The 870 Wingmaster can be used for so many things, it qualifies as the best all-around shotgun.

Waterfowl -- My 870 Wingmaster "Magnum" (2 3/4 and 3-inch shells) from the 1980s with black composite stocks to replace the factory glossy wood with pressed checkering. I use the factory 30-inch vent rib barrel that has a modified choke. I don't feel bad about blasting lots of steel BBs or even T or F goose shot through it.

Deer -- Hastings Paradox 24-inch fully rifled barrel with a cantilever and 1.5 to 5x scope. I use 2 3/4 Federal Barnes Expanders that have performed flawlessly on large corn and apple fed SE Minnesota deer and a 10-point NW Iowa buck in full rut. I replaced the main barrel nut to allow the use of a nylon sling that is only used when deer hunting.

Upland -- I'm ordering a Hastings Wadlock 26-inch barrel so I can make use of chokes while pheasant hunting here in NW Iowa and over in NE Nebraska. My favorite pheasant load is the Federal Premium 2 3/4 inch with No. 6, 5 or 4 copper plated shot. I start the season with small shot and work larger later into the winter using the same load. In the past, I made an insanely long shot on a rooster with a Remington Nitro Mag lead goose load that was no longer legal for waterfowl.

One shotgun, three barrels for all of my hunting situations. Anything else hunting-wise is easily handled with a Ruger 77/22 or a Ruger 22/45 stainless pistol for close-in work. I carry it exposed in a nylon holster and belt.

I have many other guns for range use and fun (i.e. M-48A Yugo Mauser and a .223 single shot for coyotes) but the one shotgun is a reliable and simple way to hunt. I know it will last and function long after I am gone.
