Favorite Shotguns

This question has probably been asked here before but forgive me, I haven't been here that long.
I am absolutely in love with shotguns. I like my other guns, they are fun too but for me there is just nothing more fun than seeing a clay target smoke out there in the air. Here is the question. What is everybodys favorite shotgun? Mine are as follows.

1. Remington Wingmaster. 20ga. for all around fun and hunting.

2. Ruger Red Label 12ga. sporting clays.

3. Winchester M42. Just because a .410 is cool.

4. Winchester M12. Everbody needs an old classic and the slam fire that you can do with this gun is a blast!:)
 
No big surprise for anyone here, the 870's my favorite.

There's a couple in a distant second place.

Single barrels like the old H&R. These were fantastic woods guns, great to carry, not so great to shoot. Still with a good pad , sensible ammo and better form than I used to have, shootable.

Savage SXSs. The blue collar double. No ostentation, just solid, reliable performance.

Winchester 97s. Besides my penchant for things JMB designed, it carries memories of long ago and far away, and a pretty decent bunch of guys doing an impossible job.

And guns previously owned by relatives....
 
My favorite is my SuperX2 3.5" . It is dead solid, reliable, and fits me well. It hits what I shoot at too, BIG plus. It replaced an 870 that never gave me even a hint of trouble, that beast took a lot of game. 3 years later this is still my favorite.

Next favorite is a Browning Gold Hunter 20 gauge. This thing is a pheasant's worst nightmare!!! I shoot it as well as anything I have ever tried. Aside from my reloads on hulls way past due for the can it is dead nuts reliable. Skeet targets pay dearly for their transgressions too.

Red Label sporting clays is a target hammer for me, I shoot it well as it fits like a glove. This gun has seen a LOT of ammo and is just exactly like it was when I got it. The only gun I would trade it for is a 682 beretta, just as soon as I find a dummy with a 682!!
 
They're all my favorites. Each has a role whether it's targets, hunting or varmint shooting.

Asked to pick one, it might be my Beretta 682. It was my first quality gun. I scrimped and saved for it and bought it used. At a time when I could afford only one gun it did everything, clay targets, upland hunting and waterfowl and has the wear marks and scratches to prove it.

Mirouku winnin things for third generation of shooter now.
Higgins still lives with me.

Many many others have come and gone. But the above are favorites.

In no particular order
Ithica 20g mod 37 delux (my first repeating SG circa 1968 and has killed more birds than all my others combined)
Browning "sweet 16" (Dad's favorite)
The Browning/miroku BSS 20g
Browning Citori lightning
The 20g 870 wingmaster (disappeared the day my first wife left- I sure miss that SG)
Beretta 390 (just because I thought I should include 1 gasser)
 
870 in general and my 28 ga. Wingmaster in particular.
My Ithaca 20 ga. comes in a very close second tho'.

This does does seem to be a heavily biased 870 group and thats OK because I'm one too. Glad to see that there are also other guns enjoyed also. I saw one other post from a guy with a Red Label. I love mine but was just wondering about any other comments guys might have regarding them. I have read that they are brutal with recoil. I have not found it to be bad at all as it seems to fit me. NOTE: Stock dimensions are the same as 870;)
 
Kerhby, a case can be made for the concept that a shotgun "Battery" which lacks a good pump gun capable of rugged and zero-glitch service like the 870 is not quite as effective as it could be. The versatility and reliability are unmatched.

Yes, I'm biased towards 870s, more than 40 years of perfect operation will do that to one.

However, there's few shotguns I haven't liked. I b!tch about that old H&R, but I sure wish I still had it. It still might be the gun I took the most game with. Might skip the heavy goose loads tho..

And, I like Model 500s, 37s, and 12-1300s too, just not as much as the 870. I might even like a Benelli, tho no bowing down before nor after....
 
Dave I appreciate your love for the 870 because I too, If I could have only one gun, it would have to be an 870. I love the pumps. probably because it was the first gun I ever had. Thanks for the input. I have learned a lot from reading your posts and by reading some others they always defer to you as the great Remington knowledge book.
