JMLV: You're right, except that on the Blackhawk it's the FRONT sight that's a bigger problem.
See, once you re-locate the BH rear from the "rear overhang" position to someplace further up the topstrap, you raise the rear elevation some. You also have to raise the front. And you want something better than that front blade anyways.
But most BH fronts are a single soldered-to-the-barrel piece that's a pain to either modify, change blades or even remove - to remove it, you have to heat the barrel, which means re-bluing or major stainless polishing.
And on the BH, with those "rail wings", you have no room to mount something like a 1911 adjustable rear with both elevation and windage adjustments.
Paradoxically, it's the Vaquero that might prove the easiest "starting platform" simply because there isn't so much BAD sight equipment already in the way!
