Favorite Ruger Vaquero

JMLV: You're right, except that on the Blackhawk it's the FRONT sight that's a bigger problem.

See, once you re-locate the BH rear from the "rear overhang" position to someplace further up the topstrap, you raise the rear elevation some. You also have to raise the front. And you want something better than that front blade anyways.

But most BH fronts are a single soldered-to-the-barrel piece that's a pain to either modify, change blades or even remove - to remove it, you have to heat the barrel, which means re-bluing or major stainless polishing.

And on the BH, with those "rail wings", you have no room to mount something like a 1911 adjustable rear with both elevation and windage adjustments.

Paradoxically, it's the Vaquero that might prove the easiest "starting platform" simply because there isn't so much BAD sight equipment already in the way!

An idea that worked for a friend of mine on the front sight

of a blackhawk. He milled the front sight blade off flush leaving the bottom that is attached to the barrel. He then cut a dovetail
in said remaining base and mounted the front sight of his choice in the dovetail(in his case one of the new fiber optic ones)
Also the rear ribs on the blackhawk can be easily milled flat with no loss of frame strength. giving you a flat top frame to mill the cut for your 1911 sight into. Just a thought. :)
