Favorite rimfires and why? (including longguns and handguns)

By far and away my favorite rimfire handgun is my Smith and Wesson 10 shot 617 with a 6" barrel. It's trigger is so smooth and it's accurate as hell. I love my Single Six and my SP101 but they just don't measure up the to 617. Everyone that has shot my 617 wants one after they experience its.
Insofar as rifles go it is probably a tie between my Henry H001 and my Smith and Wesson 15-22. The Henry has such smooth action and it handles beautifully and is very accurate. What can I say about a reliable AR15 chambered in 22lr? My 15-22 is just a lot of fun!

Two Ive always lusted after, and wished Id had the money available and/or brains to buy one when they were still reasonable are these......

Then again, these days with the cost of .22's, youre basically in the same boat as the full caliber MG's when it comes to feeding them.

I used to collect .22's, almost exclusively rifles that were pre-1960. Mossbergs have always been my favorite in general, though I have had plenty of old Marlin, Winchester and Remingtons. Once I got to the point where I had a full safe and half a closet full I started slimming down. At this point I am down to 3 .22 rifles, my favorite of which is a 1940's vintage Mossberg 146b. To put it simply, it's everything I think a .22 rifle should be. Full size with good wood, full length tube mag, wonderful sights and as accurate as most of the heavy barrelled target guns I had. It outshot my 30's vintage Win 52, several heavy Remingtons and almost all the other target guns I owned. It's a true dual purpose rifle for me, it's at home on the bench and will knock the squirrels out of the tallest pines.

Old picture of it with a group of Mossbergs, I don't have any solo shots of it. It's in the foreground:

Hey ch47gunner, did you put a set of K/L frame wood on a J-frame?

I've never seen those stocks on a Model 63.

Sevens,

Nope - They're J Frame Targets, by S&W. The stock magnas were too small for my hands.
I believe I got both the grips & this S&W holster from the same guy, on rimfire central.
Plus they'll fit either square or round butt.

Well, I just learned my "something new" today, I had no idea S&W ever made a target stock for the J-frame. As you can see in the first picture, it partially obscures the S&W logo on the left side of the revolver, which might also be construed as a clue that they were not designed for a J-frame.

But I guess they are!

I think I'd like to try those stocks in concert with the rare(ish) 5-inch Model 60, .357 Magnum. That's an interesting setup, it looks like a K-frame that was put in a copy machine and reduced like 15% in size. :p

Those stocks you've got look far better than the original Magna anyway, and I have met very few actual shooters who have much use for the Magna stocks in the first place, simply because they aren't comfortable at all. I've got a Model 10-8 that had them on there and they're awful in actual use.

Nice setup you've got!

Still off-topic for a bit -

Sevens,
Glad I could clear that up.
I'm pretty sure the Targets have been discontinued by S&W. Might try flea-bay, one of the auction sites, or the S&W forum.

BTW - I've used the Tyler T-Grip adapters on all different frame sizes. They will make the Magnas very shootable.

For a rifle its hard to beat a Marlin model 60.

My favorite .22 handgun I would kill to have back? Walther SP22 target model. Sweet shooter.
