Favorite Revolvers?

Hello. Like some of you, I shoot automatics mostly, but do like wheelguns, too.

The favorite of revolvers I own is a 6 1/2" bbl S&W 24. This .44 Special's quite accurate, easy to shoot, and easy to reload for. With "honest" .44 Spec handloads and certain factory rounds, it's capable of handling anything needing handling here in Texas. I also like its classic look.

The favorite that I don't own as I foolishly let TWO of them get away over the years is the S&W 5" bbl M27.

My favorite carry revolver is a well-worn S&W M042 (essentially just a M442) that I carry with ease in a Galco pocket holster.

A snub that I likely won't carry as it's pristine and I just enjoy shooting and owning it. It's a LNIB Pre-71 Colt Agent .38 Special:

Which revolvers are your favorites in this era of automatics?

Best and thanks in advance for taking the time to respond.

PS: I'm pretty darned fond of this old M19, too.

Nice iron Steve.

I routinely carry a 3" model 66 loaded with 125 grain HPs. Not much to look at, but it has never failed me. My favorite wheelgun is, of course, a Colt. A beautiful four inch Python. She's a safe queen however, not a workin' gun. Cheers.

Kinda like gettin asked at a family reunion..."which of the grand kids do you like best ?"

My 5" 27 is load sensitive but a joy to shoot with it's preferred load.
A K38 that served unfailingly for many years, and paid for itself many times over.
A first run 36 that is never out of reach.
A snub round butt 19 that sleeps with the first 36.
The 03-C2 hand ejector that snuggles against me often.

All my older Smiths are dependable and friendly.
Each has taught others to shoot well.

I cannot pick a favorite.

Boy is that a hard choice. Nice pistols. I am partial to S&W large frame revolvers myself.

4" Hand Ejector .44 spl
4" md. 57,58, Mtn Rev.
31/2" md. 27
5" md. 27
31/2" custom C&S md.58

A few K frames run with the pack
3" md 65 (2) con ser#
6" md k-38 (2) con ser#
5" md 10

and a J frame just has to tag along
-Bodyguard

Also the token Colt Agent, Python, Peacemaker

Thanks to my Dad for the Colts. All the Smiths were my finds. The consecutive serial numbers were lucky finds. Still don't have any engraved though. Have matching Lever guns in all four calibers.

Cheers,

Good Shooting...

Steve, those firearms pic's are of some emaculate equipment.
Many thanks for sharing them with the TFL family. My favorites
are far too many to mention; and I don't own a dig-i camera
to show any pic's of the one's I do own. So, I will give you
three that I greatly admire:

1- Smith & Wesson vintage .38 Special model 60

2- Smith & Wesson vintage model 27/28 (any bbl length)

3- 1999 production Smith & Wesson 629-5 .44 magnum
w/ a 5" barrel  :D :)

Best Wishes,

My favorites

S&W 686 Plus 6" (I own one)
Ruger Vaquero (on the top of my "to get" list)
Ruger GP 100 (Use to own one, regret selling it)
Ruger SP 101 (I own one)
Ruger Single-Six (on "to get" list)

I just took some new pics of my prize Blackhawk in .45 Colt and my Gerber stag bowie

Then there is this .45 Colt S&W Mountain Gun I have fallen for recently.

Mr. Camp, nice pics....

I do admire that M-24. Longer I'm at this the more I seeem to appreciate those elder wheelguns. Looking forward to my new M 27-2, due in a few days. Life is good.. so many wheelies, so little time.
Good shhotin'

Here's mine. The favorite "child" would be the 66 (second from bottom).

Hello again and thank you all for your responses and pictures. I kinda thought there might be some revolver fanciers about, especially in "The Revolver Forum." Actually, despite my preference for semis for when I really want to go "armed," the steadfast revolver has much in its favor and I do NOT feel unarmed.

Besides, I think they're just plain pretty.

Best.

JUST KIDDING!!

I couldn't pick ony one.

I could pick one from each frame size.

M36
M19 Four inch
M65LS Three inch
M686 Four inch
M625 Four inch

Hello. Have mercy! There's sure some nice revolvers owned by you guys. Very nice.

Chilidog: You will really like that 27, I suspect. Right now, I have but one, a 3 1/2" bbl. Even with that short tube, it's a pleasure to crank out full-house loads!

Best.

Favorite Wheelie

For just pure practicality (and a lot of fondness) this S&W N Frame brute will do anything I ask it to do. If I had to choose only one gun, this would be the one.

My favorite revolvers are both pre-sellout Smiths. One is a six inch M57. The other is my usual carry gun, a M649.
Runner up, and former favorite, is a Ruger Blackhawk .357.
Moving up in the pack is a blued five and a half inch Ruger Redhawk in .4 1 Magnum.

Nice toys, Mr. Camp..........

Wow, I especially like that mod 24 in 44 spcl. I'll be honest with you; I don't see too many of those anywhere anymore.

My former LEO cousin's colt Python is one of my favorites. I also love my Smith mod 638 "bodyguard".......a really useful piece.

Wheel guns are analogous to cars in some respects - a revolver is sorta like my old '55 chevy hot rod. It simply had that "look" and did what it did with brutal effectiveness. The Semi-auto is sorta like my present-day Saturn - more efficient, more precise, but without the flair and attitude of the Chev.

I dunno.......

Stephen

You sure have some nice wheelies and that new camera is working jess fine too.

But how can you pick a favorite?

I struggled with this and got it down to four but that's as far as I can get.

Either my M-28 or my M-19.

or one of my 1917's in 45acp (I seem to like the S&W's better than the Colts but either would do just fine).

or for flat out fun shooting, my Herbert Schmidt SA in 357MAG
