If you could just have one revolver for defense, hunting, and general shooting pleasure what would it be. My vote would be for a S&W model 57 with a four inch barrel.

Boy... these types of questions are difficult.
But if i HAD to choose only one for the three purposes you listed, it would be a Dan Wesson 744.

Of course I'd fudge just a bit and get a 2" barrel for self protection. A 6" for general shooting, and a scoped 10" for hunting.

With the power spread between .44 special target loads, and 300 grain hunting loads, I'd be covered.

My vote goes for a S&W 686. I have the 6" barrel, but if you wanted it for carry, you can get it in the 4" barrel length too.

Any Smith & Wesson N frame in .357 Magnum. 41 Magnum, 10mm .44 Special, 44-40 WCF, .44 Magnum, ., 45ACP0r ,45 C0lt. You can't beat them for accuracy, reliability, and a superb double action.

These S&W 657's with the 6 inch barrels are the best all round guns ever made. Rain or shine, two or four legged target.

Hey guys, got a quick question.
Did Dan Wesson ever have a revolver chambered for 41 magnum? I have always respected Dan Wesson's line of guns, but have had a constant love affair with the 41 magnum.

To be real honest, as far as revolvers go, I've got a Ruger Vaquero stainless steel Sheriff's Model (3-5/8" barrel) that is the most reliable revolver (or any other handgun, period) I've ever shot, that I would have to pick. I can also shoot it rather well.

My, always loaded, house gun is a 3 inch barrel S&W 686+, 7 rounds. Smith did a run of 3 inch barrels; and I find that to be a perfect length. It happens to be more accurate than several of my longer barreled guns like the 4" GP100 or my 586 4". Also, I put Pachmayr American Legend grips on it -- really a classy weapon. I don't use it for CCW due to its size, but would not hesitate to take it back packing. Eventually I'll put a target hammer and trigger on it.

Greetings Friends, I would have to agree that
the Smith & Wesson .41 Magnum would be my
choice; where it be a blue/nickel Model 57
or the stainless Model 657 would make no
difference. I would like to have the 6"
barrel version, please? :D

MRH--Never heard of a Vaquero with 3 5/8 bbl. Are you sure you did'nt mean 4 5/8.
Anyway, my choice would be Redhawk in .41. And yes, Dan Wesson did make a .41.

So many GOOD choices, but, like Hard Ball, I go with a S&W "N" frame. My particular choice would be in .357 magnum/.38 Special (LOTS of ammunition options) and would have a five-inch barrel (mass, sight radius, and velocity in a "not huge" revolver). Naturally, to complete the design, it would be stainless steel for durability and ease of maintenance. That's the Smith 627.

Boy, that's a toughie. I do have a match tuned 6" 686 that I would guess has 100,000 rounds through it by now, and it's still my favorite. If I coud only have one, it'd be my 2.5" 686. I could carry it, and I have used it in competition and given the big dogs a run for their money against their race guns and all.

No fate but what we make...

My choice would be my old 686 6" S&W. I couldn't tell you how many rounds have been through it, but it's still the most accruate handgun I have ever owned.

Fourdiamonds, yes, it's a 3-5/8". Last year Ruger came out with a special run of a "Sheriff's Model" Vaquero with a shorter barrel and flat-ended cylinder pin, only in .45, blue or stainless. Other than that, it's just like my 4-5/8" Vaquero.

I never have figured out exactly how many were made. Some say a couple thousand of them went to Davidson's as the only distributor, others say more than that. Regardless, I hope to see more of them.
