Favorite Revolver That You Have No Need For

I have carry, night stand, target, and hunting revolvers. I basically have a reason for owning them. Then there are the Ruger Alaskans. I have no use for them but I find myself buying them for no other reason than thinking they are cool.

Anyone else like the Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan. Or any other revolver they have no use for other than just liking them?

What is your "I just like them" revolver.

Let's see some pictures of yours.

Useless revolver

Single actions. I'm fond of Ruger's Blackhawks and New Vaqueros. I have no practical use for either, but own both in multiples. My slam-dunk favorite is my 4.625-inch .41 Blackhawk. The 6.5 incher is okay...but that short one just winds my clock.

No need

In a practical sense, I have no "need" for any of the revolvers that I own.
But....in the spirit of the question, the gun is a WWII Webley mk.iv in .38 S&W.
Fun gun to load and shoot. Big ol' 200 grain bullets at about 600 fps.
I just like it.

revolvers i don't need? gee, i've got 11... it's my black powder collection. you know we can't trust anyone under 21 with those dangerous cartridge handguns so I had to adapt.

Single action colt frontier scout. Fun gun to shoot, reasonably accurate, but I have double action 22s that are more robust and more accurate.

I also recently acquired a S&W model 27 that is more a collector than a shooter.

Well, double actions are more useful today than single actions, so I'd have to say my Ruger New Vaquero. I wanted a SAA, so it was a vanity purchase.

New Model Army replica black powder 44 cap and ball revolver.

A lot of fun to shoot. Occasionally take it hunting. Love to see the branches fall as that big heavy bullet chop them off as it moves down a tree line.

I suppose most of mine now would fall into the "collector" catagory now. They're not pristine, but they're in very good condition, and most of them have the box they came in and the papers and such that came with them. Maybe not show winning collections but good enough for me. I do shoot them, and carry a couple but mostly they get wiped down and fondled and put back in the safe.

However...there is one that I have no real reason to own. I bought it really to get the old Diamond Magna grips that were on it. I didn't really want the gun, but the seller refused to sell just the grips.

The gun is a Smith & Wesson 1905, 4th change that has been refinished so it has little or no "collector value." But it's a nice looking gun, and shoot pretty well with wadcutter loads. I put a set of grips on it that I had laying around, and I like it better now than I did. The more I handle it, the better I like it. I've thought about selling it, but why? It wouldn't bring much. I'll just keep it around.

mine would be a ranger..
as in a dept store brand either sears or similar
hi standard double nine..its in poor cosmetic condition
double action is about like a smith j frame
but single action is good..

no real reason to have it other than the double action
that looks like a single action was kind of neat, and
i like hi standards..

good enough for a knock around 22 plinker..as it was
cheap.

.460XVR. It does go to the range quite a bit, so I guess it has a purpose, sort of. All my guns go to the range, though, but spend most of their "off-duty" time in the safe.

That would have to be my 1862 Colt pocket police revolver. I've had it for 20 years and have never fired a round through it. I don't need it, but it's still one of my favorite revolvers

That would be Margeaux,,,

Margeaux,,,
My French Model 1892, 8mm Lebel.

I bought this gun for $10.00 at a farm auction,,,
It came with a small handful of cartridges,,,
The auctioneer said it was a .38 Special.

The real reason I spent 4 weeks worth of allowance,,,
Was because I loved the way it looked,,,
And it had a lanyard ring,,,
Just like Sgt. Preston.

Margeaux may be a homely girl,,,
But she would still get the job done,,,
Even at her advanced age of 112 years old,,,
She's a Model 1892 but her barrel stamp is from 1906.

New ammo is still available but scarce,,,
Reloaded ammo from 32-20 cartridges is available,,,
I shoot 12 rounds each year on or about the 4th of July Holiday.

I have no use for this gun but could never bring myself to peddle or swap it,,,
I've had it for so long (since I was 14 years old) she's like family to me,,,
I've promised it in my will to the Evil Pawn Shop Guy.

Ruger .44 Mag Vaquero--pair of 'em. On the occasion I have to camp or tromp in "serious" bear country (no brownies down here but a black bear just attacked a gal at a campsite), it goes along "just because." Love the gun, built like a tank and a great shooter--good enough reasons for me, but hardly what I'd call filling a pressing "need" the lighter/smaller and milder-mannered .357s and .44 Specials can't usually handle.

Cool story & cool piece of iron Aarond! That topstrap is a bit on the thin side. I think I'd stay away from the +P+ if I were you. :D Gotta love that round to hexagon barrel. And what year did you spend the $10?

Hello Jayhawkhuntclub,,,

If I recall correctly I bought Margeaux in the summer of 1965 but it might have been the summer of 1964.

My Mom and Dad were antique dealers and we frequented farm auctions and estate sales.

Older military weaponry was quite common at the sales,,,
No one ever valued them very highly either.

I saw another one at a gun show about 2 years ago,,,
The gentleman wanted $225.00 for his gun,,,
Not a bad price for buyer or seller,,,
I just didn't need another one.

Honestly, I don't have a particularly practical reason to keep my favorite revolver.

S&W Model 28-2 "Highway Patrolman" .357 Magnum

In about the same size package, I have a much more powerful gun (S&W 629 4") and in the same cartridge, I have a much more size efficient gun (S&W M66 2 1/2"), yet I won't even consider getting rid of my M28. The primary reason that I keep it is sentimental, it was my first revolver, my first S&W, and my first magnum. Also, due to the amount of shooting I've done with this gun and it's ability to tame recoil, I've yet to find another handgun that I can shoot better. Picking up this gun is like shaking hands with an old friend and I'll never, ever sell it.

I don't really need any of my shooter grade Pythons. :)

Or the Single Six Convertible I bought in '72.

I'm thinking I'll order a SAA .45 from the Colt custom shop. I might even go with nickel. I don't know yet. I just need another plinker.

And I surely don't need my father's S&W Model 647 .17 HMR, but it's fun to shoot and people expect it to be a big stainless boomer with the 8.375" barrel when they first see it. I do need the Model 17s though; they're useful. :)

Like darkgael I have a Webley.

Cute little gun but I would not pack it nor hunt with it. I very rarely shoot it!

But I do like it.
