Favorite Color for Front Sight

I have been a fan of having a black rear sight with a white dot front. It seems to allow the quickiest target accquisition. However, I do seem to give up some accuracy compared to the regular 3-dot set-up. I'm thinking about repainting the rear dots BUT perhaps changing the front sight to another color so it still stands out more.

I was wondering what color sights you guys prefer. Don't bother mentioning CT grips. I don't like them. I just want to know what colors you prefer red, white, green, etc....

BTW this will only be on my range guns. My carry guns will stay black rear and front dot (may color it though.)

I vote for green. I have it in fiberoptic and and seems to stand out. Most of my shooting is indoors and at cardboard targets. I find that red blends a bit with the cardboard color. Green is a nice sharp contrast.

I shoot mostly indoor too. I notice that I seem to see notice the green road cones better than the orange when driving. Don't know if it's because they're less common or just more drawn to the green. Anyone else?

The human eye picks up green the best, and I just happen to shoot my CZ 75 SA (which has green GITG paint) the best, coincidence? Maybe, maybe not... If a color, I vote green.

Flat black is what I was taught, trained and used in competition for more than 30 years. It's what I am good with. I've used FB for everything from National Match to PPC to IPSC to IDPA , on duty and for CCW. I even apply FB to my stainless firearms.

Don't get me wrong...if flashy sparkly glow in the dark stuff works for you, it works for you. Show me on the range...;)

Black in good light, for everything else green, it isn't as obtrusive as red and can be seen in poorer light. When it's dark red disappears faster and in bright light appears to big and is distracting. Just between you me and the neighbors dog I wouldn't use red on anything except perhaps a shotgun. If you can't get green than orange is good. Chartreuse and safety orange are not found in nature so it is easier to pick those colors out from a cluttered background than any other color.

Depends on what the gun is for.

If it's strictly a target gun, then the black sights are my best friend. Ping-pong ball on the table sight pictures are sharp and non distracting when I'm trying to punch the black out of a standard target.

If it's a carry gun, then the front sight I prefer is a tritium sight other than black. I want the front sight to catch my eye fast, if I even see it at all before I squeeze a trigger.

For 3 gun, I prefer a RED dot fiber optic front sight and yellow or green rear sights. Same principle, but Tritium is not my FIRST choice for race guns.

Years ago my sister who does nails gave me several bottles of flourescent color nail polish.I tried them all and green works best for me esp. outdoors. All my hunting guns sport green nail polish on the front sight.

The human eye is attracted to the color green more than any other color. My defensive handguns have 3 dots or the "ball in a cup" sight picture, but my carry guns have a front green tritium sight only.

Flat black works best for me as well. I learned to shoot a handgun Bullseye style with plain black sights, also as a mostly indoor shooter I have noticed that in the lighting on the ranges I have fired on the front sight usually appears black anyway.

I recently asked my optomitrist this question. I was told by her that red was the color that our eyes see the best. I have to agree though that I can see the light green paint better. I think the red looks more of a black and is less of a contrast against the rear site and the target.

Good point. My HS Bio teacher said red we see the best, green second. Hence stop and go lights. However, I agree the red doesnt work as well as the green for contrast. It seems to blend in more, I like the green better.
