Fast draw

Make a nice cross draw holster. It's always fun to practice cross draw and cavalry draw when playin around with your quick draw. I do it with my pietta 1858 rem. 8 inch barrel cap and ball.
At one time, cross draw was in mode for competition, but fell out of favor for strong-side. So at one time, it was considered the way to go. At one time, after the fad was over, I got a high-end N frame cross draw holster on the cheap out of a box of used holsters at a LGS.
Re: Cavalry draw. I have always been interested in all things cavalry (including the horse stuff...had horses), and was impressed by the utility of the butt-forward on the right side of their holsters. By having the butt-forward, a trooper could wield his saber or carbine in his right hand, and cross-draw his handgun with his left hand...brilliant. However, at this stage of my life I don't think that I will be practicing drawing with my left hand.

Super jealous. I have no place to practice that but would love to with my NM Vaquero. Just another reason to go buy property somewhere. :)

Nice looking set up too!

DaHermit: Greetings from an emigrant from southern Michigan to the Colorado Rockies.. Always seem to get a bit nostalgic and homesick for the woods of home about this time of year... Almost 40 years now.
I make a few leather sheaths and holsters from time to time.. you do some quality work there.. hand-stitched? Real well done and professional.

What caught my eye is that Michigan buckle.. beautiful! It is a bear goin after fish? Eyes not as sharp as they were ya know... Wonder if you would mind posting a larger pic of that buckle, or emailing me a copy?

I just sold my 66-2 4 inch and am having seller's remorse, tho the reasons for which I sold it still stand.. sure not short on .357s or .38s. The 66 really is the "carry standard" for many. Carried mine for work and when the gig ended, sold the pistol too. Thanks! Dun DunRanull@AOL.com

It is actually a Wolverine (note the bushy tail). I got the buckle in the seventies from a bank for opening an account. It is very heavy, solid brass and is numbered. I will post a larger picture of it when I get a chance.

Got the chance.

Thanks for the photos of the leather. Fantasy and real, quick is quick is it not?
In my case, everything gun, holster, belt, position of the holster is intended for just fantasy fast-draw practice in that I do not or would not use any of that for my concealed carry. It would not be practical for that purpose. So, in this instance and application, fast draw for fun and is not likely to make me any faster in fast drawing from my pocket carry S&W 36 snub.

I fast draw with real ammo all the time. Been doing it all my life.
I've only shot myself 3 times-Once in the foot & two in my leg.
The 4th one doesn't count as it was a crossdraw and hit the guy
next to me.....LOL !
:eek::D

Seriously-Keep your finger off trigger until your weapon is pointed
at the target.....

Almost all the self-inflicted wounds from fast draw are from single-action shooters. The one I know of personally was caused by the shooter (aka a young fool), cocking the gun before he drew it from his holster so he could be faster. Fast drawing and shooting double action, and not shooting until the gun is pointed down range is a whole lot more difficult to shoot one's self.
