Family Almost Got Run Over

Went with the wife and little one to th mall to buy some supplies as the wife will be away all of next week and I'll be working from home and taking care of the little one -- so I may not be around much next week as I'll have my hands full but I'll try to pop in every once in a while.

We were leaving the mall and heading toward the parking lot to our vehicle. Referring to the following image ...
crash.jpg

... We were standing on the sidewalk waiting for a break in the traffic when a white van (car A in the diagram) came to a stop and waved us by. I waved 'thank you' and we began crossing the roadway but stopped just short of the double yellow dividing line as we noticed an older mustang (car C in the diagram)coming the other way.

Just at that moment, a silver BMW (car B in the diagram) zoomed past the mini-van, crossing the double yellow line -- passing the mini-van and us and smashing head on into the mustang coming the other way causing a head on collision ... the crash happened right in front of us with us being showered with glass and other car parts.

Fortunately, me, the wife and little one are PERFECTLY fine -- no injuries from any of the flying object. Both airbags (the mustang and the BMW) deployed. The woman passenger in the mustang complained of a broken leg but everyone else seemed fine.

I was rather annoyed at the driver of the BMW because if car 'C' wasn't in the picture and we began to cross over, he would haved plowed right into us at the speed that he was going and I gave him a piece of my mind (not too big of a piece because I don't have too much spare).

We hung around for the police to come so that we could give them our statement. That was my little adventure for the evening. Again, the FUD family walked away unharmed.

Share what you know & learn what you don't

I hope and pray to never be in such a situation. You only yelled at the driver. I would have ended up in jail for what I would have done.

Well done on your part, and I am very, very glad that your family is okay.

Now, I hope that the driver and passenger of the Mustang sue the crap out of the idiot in the BMW!

I hope you stocked up on groceries. From the diagram you all look terribly thin.
I to am glad that no one was hurt (other than the relative minor injury to the passenger in the Mustang) and share Bob's sentiments about the accident.

Dadgum FUD, you ought to buy a ton of supplies, build an air raid shelter, take the family in there and seal the door!

BTW, your little one is the spittin' image of Mom and Dad. :)

FUD,

Do you ever observe a small black cloud exhibiting lightening activity hovering about three feet over your head? Have you ever considered exorcism?

FUD,I am glad you and your family are ok, that said...

I have been reading the fantastic files of Fud and I am utterly amazed. Your life is truly fascinating. I am sure you are never board and you and your wife laugh and sometimes cry for hours on end. Just spending a few minutes reading the goings on in your life brings happiness to me and others. But please don't get hit by a car, eaten by a gator, shot by a cop, arrested for trespassing, burn in a house fire, or go out of your house with your TFL shirt on.

I sat down and read some Patrick F. McManus yesterday and now I know why . He reminds me of you, or you remind me of him. If you have never read his books, please I beg of you, do read at least one. Follow the link to GT to see my post and another link to a site where you can see his book titles, if you like. Thanks and stay safe.

Thanks everyone. I actual never heard of Patrick F. McManus but now I'm curious and will have to check him out. FUD.

L-Frame, glad to see another McManus fan.

FUD, a warning: READING PAT MCMANUS CAN BE HAZARDOUS TO YOUR HEALTH.
You might die laughing!!

I have literally come away from reading his stuff with tears streaming down my cheeks and my side and throat sore from laughing so much.

Crazy Eddie Muldoon, Retch Sweeny, Rancid Crabtree, Gram, Mom, the Troll, Strange; Never Sniff a Gift Fish, Whatchagot Stew, the Skunk Trap, They Shoot Canoes, Don't They?, A Fine and Pleasant Misery, The Night the Bear Got Goombaw, cow-back riding, pig-back riding......awwww, jeez, I feel the need...the need for McMannus! Somebody stop me before I read again!!!!!!!

After years of reading Pat, I am now forbidden to read him in bed. Apparently the noises that I make while suppressing laughter are even more annoying that just laughing out loud at 2 in the morning. Find the books, you will enjoy them.

Greg

BTW FUD, you didn't fall out of a bus as a child did you? It too would explain so much. :)

i am always very hesitant to accept a wave thru by any vehicle driver.

Many accidents happen because some impatient driver has no time for the generousity of others

FUD, I'm glad to know that your family is safe.

(And thanks for posting your wife's pic above. She sure is a cutie. Lots better looking than YOU! ;) )

God help us all....

By all means if you have not read a McManus book, you must. They always reminded me of my life growing up in the country and the crazy things we did as kids trying to entertain ourselves. Like the time the highschool biology lab paid us for gathering snakes and frogs for them to disect. Having grown up catching such critters, I was nine at the time with at least 8 years of experience, I knew that I was going to make a ton of money. I sat down and figured out just how much I was going to make and made plans on how I was going to spend it. I enlisted the aid of Jim my next door friend (next door was over a mile away). We had a lot of fun gathering the little critter up. For example one snake in trying to evade me saw this nice little dark hole that looked like a perfect place to hide. Unfortunately it happended to be Jim's pants leg. Oh yea, the screaming, jumping up and down, hitting his leg with a stick, which only made Jim yell louder, was a lot of fun.

The venture ended up disapointing though as the biology department dropped their prices they would pay due to something called supply and demand.... Guess they really did not need the four gunny sacks full of snakes and frogs.

The debate is not about guns,
but rather who has the ultimate power to rule,
the People or Government.

If FUD does that we will all need Bomb Shelters! :p

Dead [Black Ops]

I know that on this board and others, LEO's such as myself have taken heat lately for enforcing simple traffic regulations on the belief of others that people are honest self-governing folk who will self-monitor themselves and voluntarily follow traffic rules without input and "harassment" by us LEO's. Things such as this incident, as well as some of the crazy drivers I've seen in my area lately, cause me to think otherwise.
The problem with incidents like this, at least in my state, is that unless the mall and Town had the forethought to pass a law making the state vehicle laws apply on the private mall property, the stupid guy can't even get ticketed. The major malls in my county had such a law passed because of stupid mall customers.

I'm glad you and the family are OK.
Stupidity in motor vehicles causes lots of grief. It easily could have gone another way.
When I was 27 years old, I was hit from behind, while I was walking, by an angry van driver who couldn't wait two seconds to be sure that nobody was behind him. I'll be 50 years old next month and my back has hurt every single day since it happened. :( I've had the surgeries and the phisical therapy, nothing has worked. In fact, it's a little worse. I'm sitting here with a heating pad on my back.

You're a lucky fool, FUD.

You didn't talk about an all-painted out pedestrian crossing, did you?
I've never ever tried to cross a busy road without at least lights or
a pedestrian crossing painted on the road. Here, it's suicide,
anyways.

At least if the cars have to stop at a crossing with lights, they
usually will because they might get mailed a photograph accompanied by
a 160 US-$ bill a few days later - many of these pedestrian crossings
are equipped with nice IR photo equipment to get the numberplate. :)
(and if you happen to get caught for the third time burning a red
light in a year, you'll have to walk for a month, plus paying even
more).

Here, if you want to cross the road, you either do it at a marked
crossing, or you sign your testament. At a marked crossing, cars have
to stop to let pedestrians through.

That's pretty scarry to think about.

mussi, maybe I didn't explain myself properly in my original post ... this wasn't an actual street buy part of the mall parking lot which goes around the building and the posted speed limit is 15 MPH.

I see you are in Florida. I don't know about the laws in Florida, but in NY, the vehicle and traffic laws do not apply to private property, with few exceptions. Handicapped parking in malls, driving while intoxicated in common use driveways (apt complexes, etc)...come right to mind as exceptions.
As I mentioned, here in NY the town and mall have to get together and pass a bill to agree that the Vehicle and Traffic laws apply to the roadways at the mall. Otherwise, no ticket can be issued.
Any Florida cops here to comment on the law down there?
