Experiences with Wolf ammo

A friend of mine says his S&W chiefs special was locked up compleatly with a live round stuck in the chamber using Wolf 9mm ammo. As I said before, I had no problems with it in my Kel-tec, but after that with his pistol I have decided maybe I should keep on using good 'ole Winchester white box. just as cheap and never had a problem with it and you cam reload it ;)

I've seen Wolf ammo in Cheaper Than Dirt catalog and considered buying some. Decided on a supply of S&Belloit in 9mm though. After reading the above, I think I'll stay away from it. General consensus says it's "hot", ruined 1 barrel, could have ruined another and his face, dirty, lottsa flash...other brands are as cheap or cheaper and work well in my gun.

Have had no troubles with Winchester (white box), UMC, or S&B in 9mm. In just under 1000 rounds through my P89 I've only had 1 "failure to eject" and that was while experimenting shooting left handed (not grip firmly?).

But what's my opinion worth? I haven't even got 1000 rounds fired yet! Some of you guys have probly done that in a day! :)

Personally, I would stay away from Wolf ammo. I shot the 9 mm through my Beretta and the stuff is DIRTY and HOT. I also had several jams with it. My Beretta Inox RARELY ever jams but with the Wolfie, it jammed 6 times with 200 rounds.

Also, with all the horror stories I've heard about rounds getting lodged in the chamber, it's not worth it no matter the price.

Why not buy good Federal American Eagle 115 grain FMJ from www.ammoman.com ? They sell a 1000 rounds of it for $134!! I just bought a case of it and a case of Fiocchi .45 ACP 230 grain FMJ ($199). They have excellent customer service and no surcharge for credit cards and no shipping charges. I don't work for them but it's just a suggestion.

Besides, IMHO, you paid a good amount of money for your firearm. Why risk putting junk ammo through it? It's like buying a Vette and driving around with K-Mart tires.

I have used wolf for some time now and no problems with it. Its weird that the guys that have had problems with wolf ammo do nothing about it? I have had a box 20 rounds of 223 ammo that did not look seated i mailed the rounds back to wolf and called them they sent me 4 boxs of it.
I think you guys should file a clame with wolf and tell them your problems.

They know of my problem, but don't seem to care.
I certainly would not want them to console me by sending me more of their junk ammo, so what good is it to complain? I just don't shoot it anymore.

I forgot mention that my friend had a Wolf 9mm round jam in his gun and he had to go pay a gunsmith get it out. The round went off, but the brass has that gooey crap on the outside of it, and it stuck in the chamber for good. Ruined a day of shooting.

VERY dirty, very +p, and very hard on extractor (steel casing-not brass). I locked up my SW 5906 and G19 in the same range visit (both within the first 250 rds) using Wolf (never had any problems before in over 1,000 rds each). I think it had something to do with it being so dirty because the round didn't seem to seat in the chamber.

I did however fire the rest of the ammo I bought (1,000 rds)without too many FTFs and only 1 more jam.

The SW fired the Wolf round but since the case was not fully supported (not fully in battery) it expanded and lodged in the barrel. I had to manually release the extractor and move the slide back so I could ram it out with a screwdriver.

The Glock didn't even fire it (primer strike too low and light) and I could just get the slide back to field strip it (it jammed because it didn't go fully into battery). Once I got the slide off I worked the live round out, discarded it, and reassembled the gun. No problems since.

Be warned.

First thing, Wolf is military ammo, manufactured by TCW, that has been packaged as sporting ammo, to get by the Clinton import ban. I can shoot this stuff all day in my Makorov without a hitch. I have also noticed that it works extemely well in AKs, SKSs, and ARs. I therefore conclude, from my experiences, and the multitude of posts I have read here, and on other boards, that if you have a durable, all steel, military firearm, Wolf and TCW ammo is great. In fact, I feel it is superior to American Eagle in my Mak. I also have had great results with the 9mm in my PT-92. I just personally wouldn't shoot it through my Polymer framed Sig, Walther or Rugers.

BTW, this just once again shows the stupidity of the Antis. TCW packaged in white boxes = bad, evil military ammo. Same stuff packaged in pretty, full color boxes with picture of wolf = good, safe, sporting ammo.

Just my .02,
David

I got a squib jammed in my new HK barrel using this crap! I'll spend a bit more and sleep way better at night from now on. I don't shoot anywhere near enough so spending an extra $20 on a 1000 rds isn't going to break the bank. You get what you pay for!
