everyone needs a levergun chambered in _______

Good luck. It seems like if it was as simple as that it would have been taken care of.

Hard to tell. It wasn't a feature of the original 1892s, but was featured on the Jap made Win. 92s. It could be that Chiappa's intent was to copy the original exactly as I have read in some forums, or they didn't want to spend the extra 50 cents to add that feature, which wouldn't surprise me.

You should talk to Steve Young of Steve's Gunz. He doesn't have anything good to say about Chiappa and he makes a living upgrading Rossi 92s.

I've seen some of his stuff, and read stuff about him in other forums.

However, if I bought a Rossi (which don't impress me at all), I would have to remove the lawyer safety and fill in that hole, plus deal with the mediocre fit of the wood, etc.

I live pretty close to Steve so I paid him a visit. He considers the Rossi fundamentally sound but about a 70% gun. He finishes what is a decent start. Recall Colt used to make a decent start to guns in the 80's but they had their name and a ready made cottage industry to finish them.

I also would not have considered Rossi except Steve has 2 ways of dealing with the goofy safety. He can replace it with a flush plug or a rear peep sight. He also offers a wood finish upgrade and all manner of other upgrades, all it takes is money. I have a 454 on the way.

My Chiappa `92 in 357 has been 100% reliable over ~ 1,000 rounds so far, eats most anything
I reload/feed it, and is as beautifully finished as any original I have even seen on the range.
But I admit it's likely the luck of the draw.

Conversely my Rossi`92 in 44Mag is the `56 Chevy -- rough but dependable (and a mean little SOB
until I cushioned/lengthened the stock a bit with a leather buttstock cover from Taylor's).
In a survival/1-gun Sophie's choice, I'd likely choose the `56 Chevy.

Lever Gun

7.62x54

1895 Winchester would be about the only lever gun I'd want. Maybe a 99 or a BLR. Just to shoot pointy bullets.

levergun chambered in ?

300 Savage (Model 99) to understand Grandpa's love for hunting and his one gun rule; " If I can't kill it with this, I shouldn't be hunting it ! " :D

.44-40..... not too much kick, more rounds per load, and you can shoot the same cartridge in your SAA Colt.

but .30-30 is nice too.
